Job summary

Dar, the founding member of the Sidara group, is seeking a Senior Materials Engineer to oversee materials engineering, testing and quality control for roads, bridges and infrastructure projects. The role ensures compliance with project specifications, international standards, and client requirements (MOT/RCRC).

You will provide guidance on materials selection, testing procedures, and quality verification, supporting the supervision team to achieve durability, safety, and performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Materials Engineering; Master’s preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in materials engineering, testing, and QC for roads, bridges, and infra.
  • Knowledge of international and Saudi standards (AASHTO, ASTM, BS, SASO, MOT).
  • Experience with asphalt, concrete, soil and aggregate testing including mix designs.
  • Familiarity with PMC/supervision projects and laboratory management systems.
  • Proficiency in materials testing software and QA/QC reporting.
  • Excellent communication and coordination with diverse project teams.
  • Membership in a professional engineering institution is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve materials submittals, mix designs, and data sheets.
  • Evaluate sources of materials (quarries, asphalt plants, concrete batching plants) and obtain approvals.
  • Coordinate with laboratories and suppliers for prequalification and quality certification.
  • Supervise materials testing activities including soil, aggregate, asphalt, concrete, steel, and chemical tests.
  • Verify the accuracy, calibration, and performance of laboratory equipment.
  • Review and validate all laboratory test results, ensuring timely reporting and resolution of non-conformities.
  • Ensure field and laboratory testing complies with ITPs and QA/QC procedures.
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure materials are stored, handled, and applied per standards.
  • Provide technical support to site teams in resolving materials-related issues.
  • Identify non-conforming materials or work and recommend corrective actions.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, consultants, and testing laboratories.
  • Coordinate with the Quality Manager and discipline engineers for consistent QC.
  • Support the project’s technical team in reviewing contractor submissions.
  • Maintain detailed records of material approvals, testing reports, and inspections.
  • Prepare materials evaluation reports, test summaries, and compliance assessments.
  • Track and report on materials performance, rejections, and trends.

Role Overview

The Senior Materials Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of materials engineering, testing, and quality control for major roads, bridges, and infrastructure projects.

The role ensures that all construction materials and processes comply with project specifications, international standards, and client requirements (MOT/RCRC).

The incumbent will provide expert guidance on materials selection, testing procedures, and quality verification, supporting the supervision team in achieving the highest standards of durability, safety, and performance.

Responsibilities:
  • Review and approve materials submittals, mix designs, and technical data sheets for compliance with project specifications and standards (AASHTO, ASTM, BS, SASO, etc.).
  • Evaluate sources of materials (quarries, asphalt plants, concrete batching plants) and ensure proper approvals before production.
  • Coordinate with laboratories and suppliers for prequalification and quality certification of materials.
  • Supervise and monitor materials testing activities, including soil, aggregate, asphalt, concrete, steel, and chemical tests.
  • Verify the accuracy, calibration, and performance of laboratory equipment.
  • Review and validate all laboratory test results, ensuring timely reporting and resolution of non-conformities.
  • Ensure that all field and laboratory testing complies with approved Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and QA/QC procedures.

  • Identify non-conforming materials or work and recommend corrective actions to maintain project quality.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, consultants, and testing laboratories to resolve materials-related technical queries.
  • Coordinate with the Quality Manager and discipline engineers to ensure consistent quality control across all construction packages.
  • Support the project’s technical team in reviewing contractor submissions related to construction methodologies and material specifications.
  • Maintain detailed records of material approvals, testing reports, and site inspections.
  • Prepare materials evaluation reports, test summaries, and compliance assessments for management and client review.
  • Track and report on materials performance, rejections, and trend analyses to support continuous quality improvement.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Materials Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in materials engineering, testing, and quality control for roads, bridges, and infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of international and Saudi standards (AASHTO, ASTM, BS, SASO, MOT).
  • Proven experience in asphalt, concrete, soil, and aggregate testing, including design mix approvals.
  • Familiarity with PMC/supervision project environments and laboratory management systems.
  • Proficiency in materials testing software, QA/QC systems, and report preparation.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills with diverse project teams.
  • Membership in a professional engineering institution (SCE, ICE, ACI, or equivalent) is an advantage.
