Job summary

Ithra seeks a Curator of Islamic Art and Culture to lead research, curation, content development, and interpretation of Islamic art exhibitions and collections. You will bridge historic and contemporary expressions while designing engaging programs and publications.

The role requires developing educational initiatives, collaborating across departments, and shaping dynamic museum experiences for diverse audiences, with opportunities for international travel and scholarly output.

Qualifications

• Bachelor in Islamic Art, Art History, Museum Studies or related field.
• Master’s or PhD preferred for advanced research and leadership.
• 10–15 years of Islamic art curation or related museum experience.
• Experience managing major exhibitions and collections.
• Proven ability to establish partnerships with institutions.
• Strong communication and public presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage research, curation, content development, interpretation and delivery of Islamic art exhibitions from concept to implementation.
• Develop exhibition narratives connecting historical collections with contemporary practice.
• Collaborate with Ithra teams to plan and deliver museum projects, programs and conferences.
• Oversee content, educational vision, interpretation and programmatic plans for Islamic galleries and spaces.
• Maintain and grow permanent and temporary collections, including loans and installations.
• Assess artifacts for collection management, conservation and exhibition development.
• Build partnerships with local and international museums and researchers.
• Publish scholarly content related to Islamic art and culture.
