Job summary

TAWANTECH is seeking a backend engineer to design, develop, and optimize scalable services and APIs in Java/Spring Boot within a microservices setup. You will own features end to end, from design through production, while ensuring security and performance across distributed systems.

The role emphasizes database design, event-driven flows with Kafka, and improving CI/CD pipelines. Prior experience in payments or regulated finance is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 4 years of backend engineering experience.
• Strong Java, Spring Boot, REST API design, SQL, and Git.
• Hands-on with containers, CI/CD, and distributed systems (nice to have).
• Payments or regulated financial services experience preferred (nice to have).

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable backend services and APIs in Java and Spring Boot.
• Own delivery of complex features end to end from design to production.
• Design and optimize database interactions and inter-service communication.
• Build and operate event-driven flows using Kafka and messaging.
• Ensure security, performance, availability, and maintainability.
• Apply secure coding practices for authentication and data handling.
• Conduct code reviews and uphold engineering standards.
• Troubleshoot production issues and implement durable fixes.
• Contribute to technical design decisions and architecture.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines, testing, deployment, and observability on OpenShift/Kubernetes.
• Identify technical debt and drive code quality improvements.
• Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge across the chapter.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Design and develop scalable backend services and APIs in Java and Spring Boot within a microservices architecture.
• Own delivery of complex features end to end, from technical design through production.
• Design and optimize database interactions, integrations, and inter-service communication.
• Build and operate event-driven flows using Kafka and enterprise messaging.
• Ensure solutions meet security, performance, availability, and maintainability requirements.
• Apply secure coding practices for authentication, authorization, encryption, and sensitive data handling.
• Conduct code reviews and uphold engineering standards across the squad.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues and implement durable fixes.
• Contribute to technical design decisions and application architecture.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment, and observability on OpenShift/Kubernetes.
• Identify technical debt and drive improvements to design and code quality.
• Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge across the chapter.
