Job summary

Batterjee Medical College in Dammam, Saudi Arabia is seeking a qualified Safety Officer to ensure a safe working and learning environment across the College. The role covers occupational health and safety compliance, fire prevention, inspections, risk assessments, and emergency preparedness.

The successful candidate will lead safety training, incident investigations, and safety audits, promote a strong safety culture, and coordinate with maintenance and regulatory authorities.

Qualifications

  • Diploma degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Engineering, Industrial Safety, or related field.
  • Certification in Fire Safety and/or Occupational Safety.
  • NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or other relevant professional safety certifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections across classrooms, laboratories, offices, technical areas, and other facilities.
  • Conduct risk assessments, identify workplace hazards, maintain risk registers, and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Monitor and manage fire protection systems, including fire extinguishers, alarm and detection systems, emergency lighting, hoses, hydrants, and suppression systems.
  • Coordinate periodic inspection, testing, maintenance, and certification of fire safety systems.
  • Identify and control fire and workplace hazards, including electrical risks, flammable materials, and blocked emergency routes.
  • Lead and coordinate emergency response, evacuation procedures, fire drills, and emergency preparedness activities.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, identify root causes, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitor high‑risk activities, including hot work, electrical work, and maintenance activities, and ensure appropriate safety precautions and permits are in place.
  • Conduct safety awareness and training sessions for employees and students.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with occupational health, safety, and fire protection requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, corrective actions, equipment checks, training, and emergency drills.
  • Support internal and external safety audits and ensure documentation remains audit‑ready.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance, Security, Administration, contractors, and relevant regulatory authorities on safety matters.

The successful candidate will be responsible for occupational health and safety compliance, fire prevention and protection systems, workplace inspections, risk assessments, emergency preparedness, incident investigation, and safety awareness. Requirements

Experience
  • Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in Occupational Health & Safety.

  • Experience within higher education, healthcare, or large institutional facilities is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety principles and practices.
  • Strong knowledge of fire protection systems, fire prevention, and hazard control.
  • Risk assessment and hazard identification skills.
  • Emergency response and incident management capabilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to conduct safety training, drills, and awareness programs.
  • Strong documentation and audit‑readiness skills.
