Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) to ensure full compliance with radiation protection regulations, implement radiation safety programs, and monitor the safe use of radiation sources across all hospital departments to protect patients, staff, visitors, and the environment. The RSO reports directly to the Chief of Medical Staff. This position is open to Saudi nationals only.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and review the hospital Radiation Safety Program.
- Ensure compliance with national and international radiation protection regulations.
- Supervise the safe operation of radiation-producing equipment (diagnostic imaging, nuclear medicine, radiotherapy if applicable).
- Monitor radiation dose measurements and initiate corrective actions when required.
- Oversee personal dosimetry programs for radiation-exposed staff.
- Investigate radiation incidents or abnormal exposures and submit official reports.
- Develop and update radiation safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Conduct training and awareness programs on radiation safety and emergency procedures.
- Coordinate with concerned departments and regulatory authorities during inspections.
- Prepare and submit periodic radiation safety reports to the Chief of Medical Staff.
- Participate in the hospital Radiation Safety Committee and provide technical recommendations.
- Review and approve radiation emergency response plans and ensure staff readiness.
- Evaluate vendors and contracted companies for compliance with radiation safety requirements.
- Contribute to the planning and design of new radiation areas in accordance with radiation protection standards.
- Monitor updates in international radiation protection standards and implement applicable requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Physics, Physics, Radiological Sciences, or a related field.
- Master's degree in Medical Physics or Radiation Protection is preferred.
- Valid license from the competent authority to practice as a Radiation Safety Officer.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in radiation safety within a healthcare facility.
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Certified training courses in radiation protection, dosimetry, and radiation safety.
