Job summary

John Crane, a business of Smiths Group, seeks a on-site Field Service Engineer to work at customer facilities, coordinating inspections, troubleshooting and commissioning of mechanical seal systems. You will travel as required and train customers on proper installation and operation.

The role requires strong mechanical engineering skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, and experience with SAP/QAD/MFG-PRO or equivalent. Excellent communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Graduate (preferably Mech Engineering) or career-level professional.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities in a high-stress environment.
• Strong mechanical engineering and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with labor reporting, work orders variances, and SAP/QAD/MFG-PRO or equivalents.
• Flexible hours including weekends to meet business demands.
• Excellent written and verbal business communication.
• Proven training, leadership, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily equipment inspections to identify issues affecting reliability, safety and environment.
• Report issues to the relevant department and ensure Work Orders are created to address them.
• Ensure commissioning and startup procedures are followed.
• Provide hands-on training for mechanical seal installations and operations.
• Support reliability engineers to troubleshoot customer applications and analyze seal performance.
• Identify training needs and propose improvements; contribute to new inspection and repair standards.
