Overview
The candidate will provide antenatal, intrapartum and postpartum care and management to medically uncomplicated pregnant women and their fetuses, and provide immediate post-partum assessment of mothers and newborns to patients identified as midwifery cases.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide total patient care and management to medically uncomplicated pregnant women in the antenatal, intrapartum and postpartum periods, as ordered by the physician in accordance with the established hospital and Midwifery scope of practice, division and unit specific guidelines, policies and procedures, standards and protocols of the Midwifery service.
- Obtain medical history, conduct physical assessment, routine antenatal examinations and obstetrical assessments, examinations during the labor process and provide advice before and after screening and tests.
- Perform examinations and artificial rupture of membranes when required. Apply internal and external fetal monitors and correctly interpret CTG readings, assess and monitor, maternal or fetal condition and escalate deterioration and emergency situation.
- Conduct uncomplicated deliveries and post-delivery care to the mother and newborn.
- Provide care for high-risk patients as assigned and escalate to physician when required.
- Document all assessments and care provided in a concise, accurate and complete manner in the patient chart. Communicate patient related information to other health care team members in a timely manner.
- Provide support to parents to cope with miscarriage, pregnancy termination, stillbirth and neonatal death.
- Demonstrate effective communication and collaborative skills when interacting with patients/families and multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Assist with the orientation and evaluation of new staff.
- Participate in teaching and mentoring of Nursing, Midwifery, Medical and Paramedical students, Interns and Residents.
- Work with health care team members on activities and quality improvement process designed for the improvement of patient care outcomes.
- Comply with hospital infection control and safety protocol.
- Perform other job related duties.

Education
- Bachelor Degree in Nursing or equivalent from an accredited institution or Diploma Degree in Nursing (Western standard for those who graduated before the availability of Bachelor Degree) – Essential

Work Experience
- For Nursing Degree Holders with CNM: Minimum of 5 (five) years’ nursing experience in a comparable health care facility/organization, 3 (three) years of which in midwifery – Essential
For Midwifery Degree Holders with CM:
- Minimum of 3 (three) years’ Midwifery post-graduation / licensure as Midwife in a comparable health care facility/ organization – Essential
- English language - Essential
- Arabic - Preferred
- Computer Level II - Essential
