Job summary

King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh seeks a Maternal-Fetal Medicine Consultant to oversee diagnosis and treatment of expectant mothers and their unborn babies. The role emphasizes high-risk obstetric care, fetal ultrasound, and genetic counseling.

The candidate should hold a basic medical degree, a PhD, and board-certified qualifications from recognized systems (ABMS, RCPS-C, GMC/CCST, FRACP) or equivalent, with 3–5+ years post-qualification experience desirable.

Qualifications

• Must hold a basic medical degree with licensure to practice.
• PhD degree is mandatory for this role.
• Post-qualification certification from North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand (ABMS, RCPS-C, GMC/CCST, FRACP or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Ensure quality and safety of obstetric and fetal care.
• Provide ambulatory consults and genetic counseling for high-risk obstetric patients.
• Perform and supervise fetal ultrasound and invasive procedures (amniocentesis, chorionic villous sampling, cordocentesis).
• Contribute to departmental research and ongoing training for staff.

Education/Qualifications Required:

1. Basic medical degree from a recognized institution
2. Ph.D. Degree is a MUST
3. Post-qualification certification
   • Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
     • USA: The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
     • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (RCPS-C)
     • UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
     • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
     • Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above

Experience Post-Qualifications:

• Minimum Three (3) years after board/equivalent certification in USA, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand and France (DES).
• Minimum Five (5) years after board/equivalent certification in Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece and France (DIS).

License:

Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensures quality and appropriateness of patient care and safety.
• Follows Organizational/ Departmental Policies and Procedures.
• Ensures the maintenance of high medical ethical standards in the practice of Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
• Provides ambulatory consults and genetic counseling for high-risk obstetric patients.
• Supervises with other senior staff the routine and high-risk ultrasound results.
• Performs tertiary level ultrasound scans.
• Performs diagnostic invasive procedures related to Fetal Medicine: chorionic villous sampling, amniocentesis, and cordocentesis.
• Performs therapeutic procedures related to Fetal Medicine e.g., intrauterine blood transfusion, reduction amniocentesis, aspiration of fetal urine, pleural effusion, ascites et.
• Takes part with other members of the Department in the development of research relevant for improvement of patients’ care.
• Participates in training of doctors and technicians in all aspects of Obstetric ultrasound.
• Participates in implementation and maintenance of training programms and continuing educational programms for Saudi National.
• Attends division meetings and departmental meetings and if required, chairs the weekly perinatal planning meetings.
• Participate actively in departmental, divisional committees as appointed by the Chairman.
• Performs administrative tasks as assigned by the Chairman of 0b/Gyn and/or Chief of Maternal-Fetal Medicine Perform other job related duties.
