Job summary

King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh seeks a Neonatology Consultant to lead high-quality neonatal care as an independent consultant and primary caregiver. The role encompasses overall care coordination, MRP duties, and collaboration with Neonatal Critical Care Department teams.

The ideal candidate has post‑board certification and regional/intl experience, with a commitment to research, education, and patient-family advocacy within the NGHA framework.

Qualifications

  • Basic medical degree from a recognized institution.
  • Post-qualification certification from recognized boards (ABMS, RCPSC, GMC/CCST, FRACP or equivalent).

Responsibilities

  • Provide high standard patient care in Neonatal Critical Care Department.
  • Act as Most Responsible Physician (MRP) for Neonatal ICU/ICN/SCBU and related units.
  • Participate in on-call coverage and quality improvement projects.
  • Supervise juniors and contribute to education and postgraduate training.
  • Participate in research and clinical committees as applicable.

Summary

Within the mission, vision and values of Saudi Arabian Ministry of National Guard – Health Affairs, a member of the medical staff who is qualified in Neonatology and can function as an independent Consultant Neonatologist and a primary caregiver and is responsible for the overall cost‑effective management and coordination of care of the patient.

Education / Qualifications Required
  1. Basic medical degree from a recognized institution
  2. Post‑qualification certification
    • Qualification source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia, or New Zealand.
      • USA: The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
      • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRCPC)
      • UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
      • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
      • Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above
Experience Post-Qualifications
  • Minimum Three (3) years after board/equivalent certification in USA, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and France (DES).
  • Minimum Five (5) years after board/equivalent certification in Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece and France (DIS).
  • Experience in Oncology Surgery is a must.
License

Current and in Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • To provide high standard and quality patient care in accordance with the NGHA mission, vision, and values in the Neonatal Critical Care Department.
  • To provide inpatient care for patients admitted to the hospital under the Neonatal Critical Care Department as a Most Responsible Physician (MRP) using the combined care approach. The consultant‑in‑charge of the particular area (Neonatal ICU, Intermediate Care Nursery, or Special care Baby Unit) on a specific date and shift is the patient’s MRP.
  • To provide care to the Neonatology patients in the Neonatal ICU, Intermediate Care Nursery (ICN), Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU), Postnatal Wards, Labor & Delivery (L&D) and Obstetrics Triage Assessment and Management Unit (OTAMU). The duration and frequency of this service is dictated by the needs and the regulations of the organization and the Neonatal Critical Care Department.
  • To determine the final disposition and plan of care of his/her patients, in addition to coordinating the referral to other services if needed.
  • To provide consultation services to other divisions within the Department and other departments within the organization during the regular working and on‑call hours according to the Departments’ Policies and Procedures.
  • To perform diagnostic and/or therapeutic interventions and procedures for which he/she has been granted specific privileges based on his/her training, qualifications, experience and skills.
  • To participate in on‑call coverage in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Neonatal Critical Care Department.
  • To actively participate in the Quality improvement projects of the Neonatal Critical Care Department.
  • To provide close supervision of the clinical performance of subordinates and to act as a role model.
  • To serve in division, departmental and organizational committees as appointed by the Chairman of Neonatal Critical Care Department, or the Executive Management of the organization.
  • To participate in scientific research and contribute to the department’s educational activities and postgraduate training programs as per the Department’s policies and procedures.
  • To regularly participate in educational activities to acquire new skills and knowledge and to support career advancements.
  • To advocate for the health needs and well‑being of children and their families.
  • To adhere to all the rules and regulations of the Neonatal Critical Care Department and the organization. Consultants are expected to familiarize themselves and comply with both the APPs and DPPs.
  • To comply with all professional and ethical standards, and express adherence to the Medical Staff Bylaws of the organization.
  • To perform other relevant duties and charges as directed by the Chairman of Neonatal Critical Care Department.
