Job summary

Confidential in the GCC region seeks two experienced Petrographers/Geoscientists to oversee digital imaging and petrographic workflows. The role guides scanning technicians, assesses image quality, and establishes QC criteria to ensure data reliability for geological interpretation.

Responsibilities include collaboration with geologists and data scientists, development of procedures, and ensuring adherence to lab procedures and confidentiality. Onsite work in the Eastern Area is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geoscience, Petrography or related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in geological imaging and/or petrography.
• Advanced technical expertise to guide and supervise scanning technicians.
• Ability to assess thin-section image quality and identify artifacts.
• Experience establishing imaging standards, QC procedures, and image-acceptance criteria.
• Experience in polarized-light imaging, petrographic interpretation, automated QC, and segmentation workflows.
• Strong analytical, technical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work onsite for at least 75% of hours in the Eastern Area.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced guidance and supervision to scanning technicians.
• Guide operation and optimization of digital imaging and petrographic workflows.
• Assess thin-section image quality and identify artifacts and inconsistencies.
• Establish imaging standards, QC procedures, and acceptance criteria.
• Support selection and refinement of imaging parameters.
• Apply polarized-light imaging and petrographic interpretation expertise.
• Support automated image-quality assessment and workflow improvements.
• Collaborate with geologists and data scientists on segmentation and labeling.
• Review and validate image datasets for accuracy and usability.
• Contribute to procedures, work instructions, and quality reports.
• Ensure compliance with HSE, confidentiality, data security, and lab procedures.
