Job summary

Job description

Air Products is seeking a HYCO Operations Supervisor to lead and support the operation of our HYCO Steam Methane Reformer unit and ancillary equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure a safe work environment and demonstrate leadership in all company and industry safe work processes.
  • Provide technical direction to the staff of the HYCO unit and ancillary equipment in accordance with Work Instruction Procedures.
  • Operate the unit when required and provide guidance on troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and test activities.
  • Support operations during start‑ups, shutdowns, and emergencies, maintaining accurate document control and monitoring quality assurance initiatives.
  • Guide the team to achieve safety, reliability, and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, controls, and safety/security systems.
  • Plan and provide input for scheduled outages to meet contractual requirements.
  • Work closely with the Shift Team, Management, Maintenance, and Engineering to meet production targets, optimize energy efficiency, and maintain profit margins.
  • Utilize the APQ Basic Safety Practice program, including Safety Work Permits, LOTO, and confined space procedures, to protect all operations personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental regulatory requirements, CM and PM tasks, and support Shutdown and Turnaround Planning.
  • Maintain the Air Products safety culture, meeting EH&S, productivity, reliability, quality, and customer service standards.
  • Respond to customer safety, reliability, product quality, and supply flexibility demands.
  • Co‑ordinate with engineering and maintenance to continuously monitor and evaluate plant systems and equipment through a Plant Process Advisory Model.
  • Participate in or lead incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis, implementing sustainable corrective actions.
  • Serve as the single point of contact for internal HYCO unit issues, coordinating resources and providing timely progress updates to customers.
  • Facilitate operational excellence through productivity, reliability, quality, cost reduction, continuous improvement, and budget compliance.
  • Maintain relationships with refinery units for feedstock, utilities, and by‑product supply/demand alignment.
  • Ensure accurate logging, inspection, and audit of operator records and logs, including Emergency and High‑Level log items.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Chemical Process Operations (or associate technical degree with relevant experience).
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in gas, petrochemical, or related industries, with at least 4 years in line supervision of process operations.
  • Experience in HYCO operations is a plus.
  • Proven coordination experience in multi‑team environments (operations, engineering, maintenance).
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to promote a ‘one team’ culture and manage customer interactions daily.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of operations, engineering, and maintenance activities.
  • Proficiency in English speaking and writing.
  • Knowledge of local environmental and health and safety requirements.
