Job summary

Welspun Pipes Company is seeking a Finishing Operator to manage finishing line operations in the production area. You will run zinc coating, grinding, cement lining, and coating processes, ensuring pipes meet quality and safety standards.

The role requires substantial experience in ductile iron pipe finishing, the ability to read gauges, and adherence to ISO EN specifications. Shift work and high-temperature, noisy environments are expected.

Qualifications

• ITI in Mechanical Fitter/Production or equivalent.
• 10–15 years of experience in a ductile iron pipe plant or similar heavy industrial finishing line.
• Ability to read gauges and measuring tools and follow ISO EN or customer specifications.
• Understanding of quality standards and safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Operate finishing line equipment including zinc coating, grinding, cement lining, coating, and hydro-testing units.
• Perform pipe gauging, length measurement, and weight verification.
• Conduct visual inspection for defects and coating consistency.
• Maintain equipment, perform basic preventive maintenance, and report breakdowns.
• Follow safety procedures (LOTO) and keep work areas clean.

Job Purpose

To carry out all finishing line operations including Zinc coating pipe grinding hydrotesting cement lining Coating marking and final inspection to ensure that all ductile iron pipes meet quality safety and production standards

Finishing Line Operations

• Operate finishing line equipment such as zinc coating chamfering machines socket grinding cement lining coating machines and hydro-testing units
• Able to handle multi task more than one function
• Training employees to perform different job functions
• Ability to operate and maintain the finishing line machines
• Knowledge of hydraulic systems and mechanical equipment
• Perform pipe external internal grinding to remove defects burrs and sharp edges
• Responsible in the application of zinc coating bitumen coating epoxy coating as per process requirements
• Carry out pipe gauging length measurement and weight verification
• Ensure proper alignment and smooth flow of pipes through the finishing line stations

Inspection Quality Control

• Conduct visual inspection for cracks dents surface defects and coating consistency
• Measure dimensions as per ISO EN or customer specifications
• Verify hydrostatic testing parameters pressure time and ensure records are maintained
• Report any non-conformities to Quality Control and supervisors

Equipment Operation Maintenance

• Ensure machines are started operated and stopped as per SOPs
• Perform basic preventive maintenance lubrication and minor adjustments on finishing line machinery
• Report equipment breakdowns promptly to maintenance teams
• Keep work areas clean organized and free of obstructions

Safety Compliance

• Follow all plant safety rules lock-out tag-out LOTO procedures and PPE requirements
• Ensure safe handling of coated pipes and chemicals used in finishing applications
• Report unsafe conditions or incidents immediately

Skills Competencies Required

• Knowledge of ductile iron pipe finishing processes
• Ability to operate grinding machines hydro-test stands coating equipment and socket machining tools
• Basic mechanical knowledge for troubleshooting
• Understanding of quality standards and inspection techniques
• Ability to read gauges and measuring tools
• Good teamwork and communication skills

Qualifications Experience

• Experience strong ITI in Mechanical Fitter Production or related field
• 10 15 years of experience in a ductile iron pipe plant or similar heavy industrial finishing line

Working Conditions

• Working in high-temperature dusty and noisy production environments
• Work involves standing for long periods and handling heavy pipes
