Job summary

Melon Digital Insurance is seeking a Financial Controller to own the full finance and accounting function in a hybrid Riyadh HQ. You will ensure accurate reporting, robust controls, and compliance with Insurance Authority, ZATCA and SAMA.

You will lead IFRS 17/9 insurance accounting, manage statutory and management reporting, oversee VAT, Zakat, withholding tax, e‑invoicing, and drive process improvements across the finance function.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, reconciliations, AP/AR, and close.
• Prepare statutory and management financial statements per IFRS, including IFRS 17 and IFRS 9 for insurance.
• Oversee ZATCA compliance: VAT, withholding tax, Zakat, corporate tax, e-invoicing (Fatoorah).
• Manage regulatory reporting to SAMA and other authorities, ensuring timely filings.
• Design, implement and monitor internal controls over financial reporting; remediate gaps.
• Oversee insurance accounting: premiums, reinsurance, claims reserves, solvency calculations.
• Lead annual budgeting and forecasting; perform variance analysis for management.
• Manage treasury, cash flow forecasting and banking relations.
• Primary contact for external auditors and regulatory examinations.
• Identify and implement process improvements and automation across finance.
• Prepare detailed management/Board analytics.

Job description

Role Overview

As a Financial Controller, you will own the full finance and accounting function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, robust controls, and full compliance with Insurance Authority, ZATCA and SAMA regulatory requirements. Based at our HQ, you'll work closely with cross-functional teams in a HYBRID environment to safeguard financial integrity, strengthen reporting capabilities, and drive finance process excellence within our organization.

Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable, and month-end and year-end close.
• Prepare and deliver statutory and management financial statements in line with IFRS, including IFRS 17 and IFRS 9 requirements applicable to insurance operations.
• Oversee all ZATCA compliance matters, including VAT returns and reconciliations, withholding tax, Zakat and corporate income tax filings, and e-invoicing (Fatoorah) integration and reporting.
• Manage regulatory financial reporting and submissions to SAMA and other relevant authorities, ensuring accuracy and adherence to filing deadlines.
• Design, implement, and monitor internal controls over financial reporting, and lead remediation of any identified gaps.
• Oversee technical insurance accounting, including premium and commission recognition, reinsurance balances, claims reserves, and solvency and capital adequacy calculations in coordination with the actuarial function.
• Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting cycle, and monitor performance against budget with variance analysis and commentary.
• Manage treasury, cash flow forecasting, and banking relationships.
• Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors, ZATCA audits and inquiries, and regulatory examinations.
• Identify and implement process improvements and automation across the finance function.
• Prepare detailed reports and analytics for management and Board review.

Must Have Requirements

• Proven experience as a Financial Controller or in a senior finance role, with substantial experience in the insurance sector.
• Hands-on ZATCA experience covering VAT, withholding tax, Zakat, and e-invoicing compliance in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
• Strong working knowledge of IFRS, with practical exposure to IFRS 17 and IFRS 9.
• Excellent knowledge of SAMA regulatory reporting requirements and insurance-specific compliance obligations.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and develop a finance team in a dynamic environment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with high attention to detail.
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities, including the ability to present financial matters to non-finance stakeholders.
• Professional qualification such as SOCPA, CPA, ACCA, CA, or CMA.
