Job summary

Albawani seeks an Environmental Engineer to support the Environmental Management Plan across all construction activities on the D01C Project in Riyadh. You will ensure compliance with Saudi regulations and ABCC's ISO 14001:2015 EMS, while liaising with regulators and stakeholders.

The role requires 7–10 years GCC experience in environmental management on large-scale projects, knowledge of LEED/Mostadam, and strong reporting, risk assessment and incident investigation capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 7–10 years GCC experience in environmental management on construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Working knowledge of Saudi environmental regulations and the relevant permitting authorities (NCEC, MEWA, NCW, NCVC).
  • Professional certifications like ISO 14001 and Nebosh EMC are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and coordinate EMP/SMP/ESCP within assigned work areas.
  • Advise site teams on environmental controls for planned activities.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to verify EMP compliance.
  • Monitor dust, noise, waste, wastewater, spills, soil contamination and ecology.
  • Review subcontractor environmental method statements for required controls.
  • Support audits and maintain environmental registers and records.

Job description

The Environmental Engineer will support the Senior Sustainability and Environmental Manager in implementing, monitoring and maintaining compliance with the project's Environmental Management Plan (EMP) / CEMP across all construction activities on the D01C Project, ensuring compliance with Saudi environmental regulations and ABCC's ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement and coordinate the requirements of the project's Environmental and Sustainability Management Plan EMP / SMP, ESCP, C&DWMP within assigned work areas.
  • Possess working knowledge of LEED and/or Mostadam requirements, with practical experience supporting environmental and sustainability implementation on at least one LEED- or Mostadam-certified construction project.
  • Advise construction management, supervisors and site teams on the environmental controls required for planned activities.
  • Prepare and review environmental aspects and impacts assessments, environmental risk assessments and activity-specific control measures.
  • Review subcontractor environmental method statements to confirm required controls are in place before work starts.
  • Conduct regular site inspections (daily, weekly and monthly) to verify compliance with EMP requirements, permit conditions and approved method statements.
  • Monitor construction activities to prevent or minimize impacts related to dust, noise, waste, wastewater, spills, soil contamination and ecology.
  • Identify environmental non-conformances and unsafe practices; ensure corrective and preventive actions are assigned, tracked and closed out.
  • Deliver environmental inductions, toolbox talks and awareness training and maintain training records.
  • Support the investigation, reporting and close-out of environmental incidents, spills, complaints and near misses.
  • Maintain environmental registers and records, including permits, waste tracking, monitoring data, inspections, incidents and audit findings.
  • Liaise with the Consultant, regulatory authorities (NCEC, MEWA, NCW, NCVC) and other stakeholders on environmental matters.
  • Support internal and external environmental audits and help maintain alignment with ABCC's ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline from a recognized university.
  • Minimum 7–10 years' relevant GCC experience in environmental management on construction or infrastructure projects, experience on large-scale developments project.
  • Working knowledge of Saudi environmental regulations and the relevant permitting authorities (NCEC, MEWA, NCW, NCVC).
  • Professional certification highly desirable Environmental Diploma Level 6 or 7, Nebosh EMC, IESP membership, ISO 14001 and Saudi Council of Engineers membership is required.
  • Preferable certifications, LEED, and Mostadam.
  • Practical experience with EMP/CEMP implementation, environmental monitoring, incident investigation and corrective action tracking.
  • Fluent in English (mandatory per project contract conditions); Arabic is an advantage.
  • Strong report writing, documentation and record-keeping skills.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management across client, consultant, subcontractor and regulatory interfaces.
  • High attention to detail with sound, practical judgement on active construction sites.
  • Proficient in MS Office; familiarity with environmental/EHS data management systems.
  • Able to work effectively within a large, fast-paced, multi-stakeholder megaproject team.
