Job summary

Perfect Vision in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, is seeking an Embedded Systems Engineer to design and build firmware for connected telematics devices. You will develop efficient C/C++ on constrained hardware, implement OTA updates, and ensure secure data transmission to our fleet platform.

You will work with hardware engineers during board bring-up, integrate drivers for UART/SPI/I2C, and optimize for low power and long-term field reliability, delivering robust edge-to-cloud capabilities.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of embedded development experience.
• Strong C and C++ on constrained microcontrollers.
• Experience with RTOS, interrupts, and real-time constraints.
• Experience with CAN/OBD-II and vehicle bus protocols.
• Familiar with MQTT/TCP/IP networking.
• Hardware debugging tools like oscilloscope and JTAG.

Responsibilities

• Design, write, and maintain firmware for microcontrollers on RTOS or bare-metal.
• Develop device drivers for UART, SPI, I2C, ADC, GPIO, and DMA.
• Implement vehicle data access over CAN, OBD-II, J1939, and Modbus.
• Build cellular connectivity and telemetry using MQTT, TCP/IP, TLS.
• Design OTA firmware update mechanisms with rollback and integrity checks.
• Collaborate with hardware and platform teams for data contracts.
• Write unit and integration tests; perform debugging with JTAG/SWD.

Embedded Systems Engineer

Firmware for connected telematics devices — from sensor to cloud

Location: Dammam

Type: Full-time, permanent

Our telematics devices run firmware that captures vehicle and asset data, processes it at the edge, and streams it securely to our platform. As Embedded Systems Engineer you will design and build that firmware — writing efficient, robust C/C++ on constrained hardware, integrating connectivity and sensors, and delivering the reliable over-the-air update pipeline our fleet depends on.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, write, and maintain firmware in C/C++ for microcontrollers, on RTOS (FreeRTOS/Zephyr) or bare-metal.
• Develop and integrate device drivers and low-level interfaces: UART, SPI, I2C, ADC, GPIO, DMA.
• Implement vehicle-data acquisition over CAN, OBD-II, J1939, and Modbus.
• Build cellular connectivity and telemetry using MQTT, TCP/IP, TLS, and (where relevant) CoAP/HTTP.
• Design robust over-the-air (OTA) firmware update mechanisms with rollback and integrity checks.
• Optimise for low power, memory footprint, and long‑term field reliability.
• Work with hardware engineers during board bring‑up and with the platform team on device‑to‑cloud data contracts.
• Write unit/integration tests, debug with JTAG/SWD, and support field diagnostics.

Required Qualifications

• Degree in Computer/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent, with 3+ years of embedded development.
• Strong C (and ideally C++) on resource‑constrained microcontrollers.
• Hands‑on experience with RTOS concepts, interrupts, and real‑time constraints.
• Practical experience with serial/embedded protocols (UART, SPI, I2C) and at least one vehicle bus (CAN/OBD-II).
• Experience with cellular or wireless connectivity and MQTT/TCP‑IP networking.
• Comfortable with hardware debug tools: oscilloscope, logic analyser, JTAG/SWD.

Nice to Have

• Experience shipping OTA update systems and secure boot.
• Familiarity with GNSS/GPS positioning and dead‑reckoning.
• Knowledge of embedded security (TLS, key storage, secure elements).
• Exposure to CI for firmware and hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing.
