Job summary

Buro Happold is seeking an Associate Director of Electrical Engineering in Riyadh to lead a project portfolio and major programmes within our Buildings practice. You will translate business objectives into technically delivered projects, driving client relationships and sustainable performance across Saudi Arabia and the region.

You will shape discipline capability, mentor leaders, and ensure delivery excellence while promoting sustainability and whole-life value in project strategies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline for professional registration.
• Led a substantial engineering team or major programme.
• Strong technical judgement across electrical building services systems.
• Experience establishing technical assurance and overseeing delivery through project leaders.
• Proven portfolio forecasting, fee development, resource planning and commercial recovery.
• Experience developing strategic client relationships and leading bids/negotiations.
• Strong understanding of Saudi delivery conditions, regulatory interfaces and authority requirements.
• Ability to evaluate digital workflows, design review effectiveness.
• Evidence of developing leaders, succession planning and capability building.
• Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional registration.
• Membership of IET, CIBSE or equivalent institution.
• Leadership, commercial management development; accreditation desirable.
• Saudi Council of Engineers registration where required.

Responsibilities

• Lead an electrical project portfolio or major programme, ensuring quality and delivery.
• Set portfolio delivery and assurance arrangements with defined responsibilities.
• Provide senior technical direction on electrical strategies and decisions.
• Oversee risks, ensure mitigation and escalation as needed.
• Lead workforce/resource planning and development needs.
• Manage portfolio forecasts, fees and resourcing costs; propose actions.
• Develop strategic client relationships and resolve delivery issues.
• Lead major bids, define scope, exclusions and resources.
