Job summary

Electrical Industries Company in Saudi Arabia is seeking an experienced Substation Automation System engineer to design, configure, and validate SAS projects. You will lead technical activities related to Zenon SCADA/BCU/Cybersecurity and integrate IEDs, gateways, and network devices, ensuring FAT/SAT and smooth handover to end-users.

The role requires expertise in IEC 61850 MMS/GOOSE, IEC 60870-5-101/104, DNP3, and redundancy/time protocols.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of SAS design/engineering experience in power/substation projects.
• Experience in FAT/SAT and handover procedures with customers.

Responsibilities

• Review input data from sales for conflicts and resolve them.
• Prepare base and detailed SAS design & documentation for Substation Automation.
• Coordinate with stakeholders during document submission and design flow until FAT & SAT.
• Engage with customers for document approvals and timely updates.
• Procure SAS components and liaise with suppliers and customers for updates.
• Configure SCADA HMI software (Zenon) and SAS devices (Ethernet switches, gateways, IEDs).
• Apply knowledge of SAS protocols (IEC 61850 MMS/GOOSE, IEC 60870-5-01/104, DNP3).
• Implement redundancy protocols (RSTP, PRP, HSR) and time protocols (SNTP, PTP).
• Lead SAS engineering activities including cybersecurity, gateways, and IED integration.
• Conduct FAT/SAT with customers and ensure system testing and handover.

Job description

• Review input data received from sales for a project and highlight conflicts, if any.
• Prepare base design & detailed design documents for Substation Automation & System.
• Coordination with various stakeholders (internal & external) during the documents submission and design flow process till FAT & SAT.
• Follow-up with customers/end-user in getting approval of documents.
• Procurement of SAS components, negotiations with suppliers and coordination with customers / end-users for timely updates.
• Configuration of SCADA HMI software, (Copa data Zenon) and other major SAS components like Ethernet Switches, Station Computers, Gateways, Firewalls, NTP servers, etc.
• Thorough knowledge of SAS protocols like IEC 61850 MMS/GOOSE, IEC 60870-5-01/104, DNP3, etc.
• Thorough knowledge and hands on experience on redundancy protocols like RSTP, PRP, HSR, time protocols like SNTP, PTP, etc.
• Lead the technical activities related to Substation Automation System (including Zenon SCADA / BCU / Cybersecurity / Gateways/ IEDs and other SAS components.
• Conducting FAT & SAT with customers / End-user including complete system testing until handover.
• Ensure proper handover of all factories as-built drawings / documents and SCADA HMI software database backup related to a project.
• Understanding / knowledge of OT Cybersecurity related to Automation Systems including AD, WSUS, Anti-virus, NMS, Backup, etc.
• Thorough knowledge of National Grid Substation Automation Standards such as all TES-P-107.04, TES-P-107.05, TES-P-107.06, TCS-P-103.03, 31-TMSS-01, 01-TMSS-01, etc.
• Preparation of SAS prequalification documents and addressing National Grid comments throughout the SAS Prequalification Process.
• Designing the prototype for National Grid-Substation Automation System.
• Overall National Grid-SAS experienced candidate with the following highlights:
• Technical activities related to Substation Automation System (including Zenon SCADA/BCU/Cybersecurity/Gateways/IECs and other SAS components; SAS Engineering & Design, Procurement, Protection / Control IEDs & Network Device Configuration Integration with IEDs on IEC 61850 MMS / GOOSE, SCADA HMI, System Testing & Commissioning including FAT / IFAT & SAT, troubleshooting, coordination of activities and related documentation, Control Center Integration from Substation over IEC 60870-5-101 / 104, DNP3 etc., National Grid approval from SAS, Thorough knowledge in National Grid-SAS standards such as all TES-P-107.01, TES-P-107.04, TES-P-107.05, TES-P-107.06, TCS-P-107.03, 31-TMSS-01, 01-TMSS-01, etc.

• Minimum 3-5 years experience in the field related to:
• Substation Automation System (SAS) Design and Engineering of Saudi
• Power System Automation & Control, covering Protection & Control Configuration of IEDs, BCUs, etc.
• Design of SCADA HMI including SLDs. Alarms, & Events, SOEs, Network Mapping, Trends and reports, communication configuration and interfacing of network devices (ethernet switches, Reuters, Gateways, Servers, etc.)
• Coordination with customers to conduct successful FAT, SAT and complete handover.
• Complete responsibility for handling overall project documentation, etc.

• Technical knowledge related to Power System Protection, Automation & Controls) including various communication protocols (Modbus, DNP, IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-101/104, etc.) application software of HMI/SCADA solutions, etc. proficient in major SAS device configuration.
• Conversant with all Microsoft tools like Word, Excel, Projects, etc.
• Presentation and excellent communication skills, team player with capability to handle situations.
