Job summary

Saudi Gold Refinery (SGR) seeks an Accountant in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to manage daily financial recording and reconciliation for refining operations. You will maintain the general ledger, support monthly closings, and ensure VAT compliance in line with ZATCA requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or trading environment.
  • Proficiency in Saudi VAT regulations and ZATCA filing requirements.
  • Strong general ledger accounting, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliation skills.
  • Experience with inventory accounting and cost allocation methods.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP functions for financial analysis.
  • Fluency in English is required for reporting, with working proficiency in Arabic preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the general ledger by posting accurate journal entries for refining costs, bullion inventory movements, and corporate expenses.
  • Calculate and file monthly and quarterly VAT returns through the ZATCA portal in full compliance with Saudi tax laws.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations for key accounts including cash, inventory, and accrued liabilities.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and calculate depreciation for plant equipment, laboratory instruments, and corporate assets.
  • Prepare audit schedules and retrieve supporting documentation for external auditors during interim and final audits.
  • Allocate refining costs, including chemicals and energy, to specific production batches for accurate cost of goods sold reporting.

Role Overview

Saudi Gold Refinery (SGR) is seeking a Accountant in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to manage daily financial recording and reconciliation activities for our refining operations. This role ensures accurate general ledger maintenance, supports monthly closing processes, and maintains compliance with Saudi tax regulations. The position directly supports the Finance Manager in producing timely financial statements that reflect the cost of refining and bullion inventory valuation.

The Accountant will report directly to the Finance Manager and will play a key role in maintaining financial integrity across our operational and corporate functions. This position requires a detail‑oriented professional who can manage VAT compliance, inventory reconciliations, and payroll support in a regulated industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

The Accountant will be responsible for the following key areas of financial management and compliance.

General Ledger Management

The role maintains the general ledger by posting accurate journal entries for refining costs, bullion inventory movements, and corporate expenses.

Tax Compliance

This position calculates and files monthly and quarterly VAT returns through the ZATCA portal in full compliance with Saudi tax laws.

The Accountant reconciles physical bullion and dore inventory counts with system records to identify and resolve discrepancies promptly.

Monthly Close Support

The role prepares monthly balance sheet reconciliations for key accounts including cash, inventory, and accrued liabilities.

Fixed Asset Management

The Accountant maintains the fixed asset register and calculates depreciation for plant equipment, laboratory instruments, and corporate assets.

Audit Preparation

The role prepares audit schedules and retrieves supporting documentation for external auditors during interim and final audits.

Cost Accounting Support

This position allocates refining costs, including chemicals and energy, to specific production batches for accurate cost of goods sold reporting.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or trading environment.

Preferred / Nice‑to‑have
  • Experience in the precious metals, mining, or commodities trading sector.
  • Professional accounting qualification such as SOCPA, CPA, or ACCA.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics 365.
  • Familiarity with LBMA financial reporting requirements or precious metal valuation standards.
  • Experience with fixed asset management in a heavy industrial or plant environment.
Success Metrics
  • Achieves 100% on‑time filing of VAT returns with zero penalties from ZATCA.
  • Completes monthly bank reconciliations within five working days of month‑end.
  • Reduces general ledger reconciliation discrepancies to less than 1% of total transactions.
  • Successfully supports the annual external audit with no major findings in assigned areas.
  • Implements an improved fixed asset tracking process that aligns with physical verification.
  • Maintains an up‑to‑date fixed asset register with 100% accuracy in depreciation calculations.
