Job summary

Qatar Airways in Doha is seeking a Senior Overflight Permits Officer to manage end-to-end overflight permissions for both scheduled and non-scheduled operations. You will coordinate with Civil Aviation Authorities, conduct flight planning analyses, and keep systems like OPPT/OPD up to date while supporting safety and efficient routing.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of job-related experience.
  • Experience in the management of Overflight Permissions.
  • ATPL/CPL/Flight Dispatch License or Certification.
  • Experience with ANSP or Airline in Flight Operations Navigation.
  • Knowledge of international flight planning requirements and dispatch practices.
  • Familiar with SITA and AFTN applications in communication.
  • Knowledge of BI tools such as Power BI and Qlik Sense is advantageous.

  • Handle requests for non-scheduled flights including deliveries, charter, ferry operations and training.
  • Monitor schedule changes to determine overflight permissions and optimize efficient routes.
  • Support IOC, Dispatch, and Schedule Planning with overflight permit activities during disruptions.
  • Assign ATC call signs as required and maintain related permission records.

Description

About the role: Qatar Airways are pleased to announce an incredibly exciting opportunity to join our Flight Operations – Navigation Services team as Senior Overflight Permits Officer to be based in Doha, Qatar.

As a Senior Overflight Permits Officer, you will be responsible to support end-to-end management of Overflight Permissions (OVF) for both scheduled and non-scheduled operations across the Qatar Airways route network. In this role, you will be required to maintain strong working relationships with Civil Aviation Authorities to secure timely approvals through proactive communication and a thorough understanding of regulatory requirements. You will conduct necessary flight planning and data analysis and will maintain currency of in-house overflights permission tools and LIDO Traffic Rights module. You will also support flight safety by de-conflicting flight schedules and assigning alphanumeric ATC call signs.

Specific Responsibilities For The Role Include
  • Prepare and manage seasonal overflight permissions across QR Route network in accordance with Government Civil Aviation Authority requirements for both primary and contingency airspaces.
  • Prepare and manage overflight permission requests for non-scheduled flights including but not limited to aircraft deliveries, charter and ferry operations, base training, test flights and wet lease operations.
  • Monitor flight schedule changes through in-house TOPS – Schedule Change Manager to determine overflight permission requirement and ensure permits are obtained from Government agencies considering flight and fuel efficiency preferences.
  • Support IOC, Flight Dispatch, and Schedule Planning teams with overflight permit-related activities during operational disruptions and schedule changes to ensure seamless and compliant flight operations. Conduct flight planning and route analysis assessments to determine applicable overflight permission requirements, supporting fuel-efficient and operationally viable routes.
  • Assign alphanumeric ATC call signs where required for flight safety and ensure their inclusion in all relevant overflight and landing permissions.
  • Maintain currency of the Overflight Permissions Production Tool (OPPT), Overflight Permissions Directory (OPD) and Permit List.
  • Update and manage ‘Traffic Rights’ in LIDO Flight planning system to ensure flight planning is in accordance with company policy.
  • Review relevant published NOTAMs for airspace closures to identify potential operational impacts and confirm overflight permission implications across the QR Route network.
  • Review seasonal codeshare lists and ensure corresponding traffic rights updates are accurately reflected in Lido.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with IOC, Navigation services and other internal stakeholders to ensure timely exchange of information required for effective Air Traffic operations.

Qualification
About You
  • Relevant University or College qualifications with Minimum 5 years of job-related experience.
  • Experience in the management of Overflight Permissions.
  • ATPL/CPL/Flight Dispatch License or Certification.
  • Experience working for an ANSP or Airline in Flight Operations Navigation and ATM department.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of international flight planning requirements and dispatch practices.
  • Familiar with use of SITA and AFTN applications in communication.
  • Knowledge of Flight Planning Software, LIDO OC.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Aeronautical Information Publications.
  • Knowledge of business intelligence and data visualization tools, such as Power BI and Qlik Sense, would be an advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Specifically in Excel).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
