Job summary

Pleo is seeking an experienced Staff Backend Engineer to take technical ownership of complex, enterprise-grade domains. You will design, build, and evolve scalable backend services for our spend management platform, applying DDD and clean architectural principles.

We rely on Node.js with TypeScript alongside Temporal, SpiceDB, PostgreSQL, Kafka and Redis. This 80/20 hands-on leadership role blends deep engineering work with architectural influence, with remote work and occasional travel across

Qualifications

Hands-on backend engineering with scalable systems.
Proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript.
Experience applying Domain-Driven Design (DDD).

Responsibilities

Take technical ownership of complex business domains and design scalable backend services.
Apply Domain-Driven Design to model domains and define service boundaries.
Build and evolve APIs and integrate services with reliable asynchronous workflows.
Ensure security, scalability, observability, and resilience in production.
Mentor engineers and drive architectural decisions.
Leverage AI responsibly to maintain engineering quality.
