Remote Crew is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to shape the core architecture of our platform in Porto, Portugal. You will own backend systems, design scalable data ingestion, and build robust APIs, working closely with the founding team to deliver value for clients.

Qualifications

• 3 years of backend engineering with ownership of production systems.
• 3+ years of Python (preferred).
• Strong understanding of distributed systems (queues, pub/sub, retries, idempotency, eventual consistency).
• Experience designing clean, versioned REST APIs for external customers.
• Strong relational database experience (PostgreSQL or MySQL), including schema design.
• Experience working in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in fast-paced teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and own the core platform architecture end-to-end.
• Build a robust, secure, and scalable data ingestion layer for high-volume and diverse data sources.
• Develop scraping and parsing systems to extract and structure web and external data reliably.
• Build and maintain customer-facing APIs with clear, versioned, developer-friendly design.
• Ensure systems are performant, resilient, and production-ready.
• Influence and shape engineering culture, raising the bar for quality and ownership.
• Improve engineering practices around scalability, reliability, and developer productivity.
• Work closely with founders and product to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Continuously iterate and improve system design based on real-world usage and feedback.
