Job summary

Nitro is hiring an Software Engineer Intern in Porto to help design, develop, and optimise cloud-deployed JVM applications written in Java or Scala. You will collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams to contribute to key system improvements and new features.

Ideal candidates are undergraduates or graduates with a passion for turning product ideas into working software, and comfort with Git and basic FP concepts.

Qualifications

• Candidates should be current undergraduate or graduate students.
• Familiarity with the JVM and Java is required.
• Knowledge of Scala is a plus.
• Basic knowledge of functional programming concepts.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work well in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
• Familiarity with version control systems (Git).
• Basic knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and system design principles.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and optimising cloud-deployed JVM applications primarily written in Scala or Java.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and design teams to build and improve features.
• Help debug, test, and ensure the performance of existing software solutions.
• Contribute to code reviews, ensuring best practices and clean, maintainable code.
• Support the development of new functionalities based on product requirements.
