Job summary

Nitro Software’s Engineering Team in Porto is seeking a Software Engineer Intern to help design, develop and optimise cloud-deployed JVM applications written in Java and Scala. You’ll work closely with engineers across product and design to deliver high-quality features and performance improvements.

You'll learn modern software engineering practices, participate in code reviews, debugging and testing, and contribute to scalable systems in a collaborative, international environment.

Qualifications

• Interest in turning product features into functioning software.
• Familiarity with JVM and Java.
• Knowledge of Scala is desirable but not required.
• Basic knowledge of functional programming.

The Engineering Team at Nitro is responsible for building high-performance, scalable solutions that drive our product innovation. We are now looking for a Software Engineer Intern to support our team in developing and optimising software solutions. In this role, you will collaborate closely with our engineers and cross-functional teams to contribute to the design, development, and improvement of key systems.

What You’ll Do

• Assist in developing and optimising cloud-deployed JVM applications primarily written in Scala or Java.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and design teams to build and improve features.
• Help debug, test, and ensure the performance of existing software solutions.
• Contribute to code reviews, ensuring best practices and clean, maintainable code.
• Support the development of new functionalities based on product requirements.

What We’re Looking For

• Strong interest in bringing product features to life through software engineering.
• Familiarity with the JVM and an object-oriented programming language such as Java.
• Knowledge of Scala is desired but not required.
• A basic knowledge of functional programming concepts
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
