Elastic, the Search AI Company, is seeking a Principal Software Engineer for the Elasticsearch Performance team to lead architectural and code-level performance initiatives. You will drive optimizations, build performance models, and collaborate across teams to embed performance-first thinking from the outset.

The role focuses on profiling distributed systems, benchmarking, and leveraging AI-assisted methods to accelerate optimization, while mentoring engineers and ensuring scalable, reliable

Qualificações

• Deep knowledge of Java internals and JVM memory management; concurrency models; high-performance, thread-safe, lock-free code.
• Proven experience profiling and optimizing distributed systems; benchmarking tools (flamegraphs, JMH, Rally) and optimizations.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems architecture: partition tolerance, cluster state propagation, and scaling in large stores.
• Proven track record using AI/advanced tooling to accelerate optimization and automate benchmarks.

Responsabilidades

• Own core performance initiatives from architecture to production; lead high-impact optimizations.
• Develop performance models and methodologies for distributed systems.
• Drive optimization strategies to keep Elasticsearch performant, predictable, and scalable.
• Profile and analyze system behavior to identify bottlenecks in logging, metrics, vector search, and ES|QL.
• Ensure robust benchmarks and regression detection for stateful and serverless architectures.
• Collaborate across teams to embed performance-first thinking in new features.
