Elastic, the Search AI Company, is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch Performance team. You will lead architectural and code-level performance initiatives.

Your goal is to drive the continuous optimization and predictability of Elasticsearch performance, partnering with area-specific teams to unlock the full potential of our software. In this role you will own core performance initiatives from design to production, mentor engineers, and build AI-assisted optimization

Qualificações

• Deep knowledge of Java internals and JVM memory management; concurrent, high-performance code.
• Experience profiling and optimizing distributed systems; benchmarking tools and optimizations.
• Understanding of distributed systems architecture, partition tolerance and scaling challenges.

Responsabilidades

• Own performance initiatives from architecture to production; drive high-impact optimizations.
• Develop performance models and methodologies for complex distributed systems.
• Lead optimization strategies to keep Elasticsearch scalable and predictable.
• Profile system behavior to identify bottlenecks in logging, metrics, vector search, and ES|QL.
• Ensure robust benchmarks and regression detection for stateful and serverless architectures.
• Collaborate across teams to embed performance-first thinking in new features.
• Drive AI-assisted optimization harnesses to streamline profiling and benchmarking.
• Mentor engineers and promote a culture of performance-aware development.
