Job summary

Decskill is hiring a Senior Middleware Operations Engineer specialized in WebSphere to ensure service stability, availability, and operational excellence in production environments. The role covers L2/L3 support, incident resolution, monitoring, and ongoing modernization toward Liberty.

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years in middleware operations, strong WebSphere administration, and experience migrating to Liberty, plus automation skills with Ansible, Shell, and Python.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years in middleware operations or production support.
• Hands-on WebSphere Application Server administration experience.
• At least one completed migration from WebSphere ND/Base to Liberty.
• Experience with monitoring, incident management, troubleshooting.
• Strong Linux/Unix, JVM fundamentals, and log analysis.
• Experience with Ansible for automation.
• Shell scripting and Python proficiency.
• Familiarity with deployment/orchestration tools such as XLD/XLR.
• Experience in high-availability or regulated environments is a plus.
• Excellent command of English (spoken and written).

Responsibilities

• Ensure the stability, availability, and operational excellence of WebSphere services in production.
• Provide L2/L3 production support for middleware environments.
• Manage and resolve incidents, perform troubleshooting, service restoration, and recovery activities.
• Monitor application server environments and analyze logs, runtime issues, and server resources.
• Perform standard changes, restarts, patching, and lifecycle activities.
• Support WebSphere migration and modernization, particularly migration from WebSphere Application Server to Liberty.
• Contribute to platform optimization, performance monitoring, and runtime stability improvements.
• Coordinate with legacy, scheduling, and deployment teams.
• Automate operational tasks using Ansible, shell scripting, and Python.
• Support deployment and orchestration activities using XLD, XLR, or equivalent tools.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and operational automation.
• Work autonomously on complex technical issues in critical production environments.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in middleware operations, application server support, or production support.
• Strong hands-on experience with WebSphere Application Server administration.
• Mandatory experience with at least one completed migration from WebSphere ND or WebSphere Base to Liberty.
• Strong knowledge of monitoring, incident management, troubleshooting, and service restoration.
• Good knowledge of Linux/Unix, JVM fundamentals, log analysis, and application server runtime environments.
• Experience with Ansible for operational automation.
• Good knowledge of Shell scripting and Python.
• Experience with XLD, XLR, or equivalent deployment/orchestration tools.
• Practical experience with performance optimization, server resource analysis, and platform stability.
• Ability to work autonomously in complex and critical environments.
• Experience in regulated or high-availability environments is a plus.
• Strong understanding of application server migration, lifecycle management, and obsolescence.
• Good level of spoken and written English.
