Job summary

PrimeIT is seeking a Senior Middleware Operations Engineer to ensure stability of WebSphere services and drive the modernization toward Liberty in a hybrid Lisbon setup. You will manage incidents, migrations, and deployments with automation tools, while coordinating across middleware, infra and production teams.

Experience in WebSphere, Liberty, Ansible, XL Deploy/XL Release, Shell and Python is required, along with English proficiency.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of middleware operations experience in production support.
• Hands-on WebSphere Application Server administration.
• Migration delivery from WebSphere ND/Base to Liberty.
• Liberty configuration, deployment and troubleshooting skills.
• Linux/Unix, JVM fundamentals, security and log analysis.
• Experience with monitoring, incidents and production stabilization.
• Familiarity with Ansible and XL Deploy/XL Release or equivalents.
• Shell scripting and Python knowledge.
• Understanding COBOL ecosystem constraints and workloads.
• Ability to manage RUN activities autonomously and escalate risks.

Senior Middleware Operations Engineer — WebSphere / Liberty

We are looking for a Senior Middleware Operations Engineer to join a challenging technology project in a financial environment, ensuring the stability of WebSphere services and supporting the modernization of WebSphere ND/Base environments towards Liberty.

• Ensure the stability, reliability and operational support of WebSphere production environments.
• Manage L2/L3 incidents, investigate runtime issues and restore services.
• Support and deliver migration activities from WebSphere ND/Base to Liberty.
• Review monitoring, optimize performance and analyse server resources to improve platform stability.
• Support patching, lifecycle activities and the remediation of obsolescence and technical debt.
• Automate operational tasks and support deployments using Ansible, XL Deploy/XL Release, Shell and Python.
• Prepare operational documentation, migration runbooks and technical handovers.
• Coordinate with middleware, infrastructure, application, legacy and production scheduling teams.

What we are looking for

• 5+ years of experience in middleware operations, application server support or production support.
• Strong hands-on experience administering WebSphere Application Server.
• Previous delivery of at least one completed migration from WebSphere ND or Base to Liberty.
• Strong Liberty configuration, deployment and troubleshooting skills.
• Good knowledge of Linux/Unix, JVM fundamentals, security, connectivity and log analysis.
• Experience in monitoring, incident management, service restoration and production stabilization.
• Practical experience in performance optimisation and server resource analysis.
• Experience with Ansible and XL Deploy/XL Release or equivalent deployment and orchestration tools.
• Good knowledge of Shell scripting and Python.
• Understanding of COBOL ecosystem constraints and interfaces, and TWS or equivalent workload automation dependencies.
• Experience with application packaging, release coordination and migration documentation.
• Ability to manage RUN activities autonomously and escalated risks appropriately.
• English at C1 level and French at A1 level.

Nice to have

• Previous experience in financial, regulated or high-availability environments.
