Job summary

Capgemini Engineering seeks an experienced Senior Functional Safety Engineer in Portugal to contribute to safety concept development and system-level analyses within automotive programs. You will derive safety requirements and support safety verification across hardware and software teams.

The role requires 8+ years in functional safety, strong ISO 26262 knowledge, and hands-on experience with FTA, FMEA, and SysML/UML. Hybrid work options and global project exposure are offered.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 8 years of experience in Functional Safety within the automotive industry.
• Strong knowledge of automotive E/E architectures and technologies.
• Proven expertise in ISO 26262, especially Part 3 and Part 4.
• Demonstrated experience with HARA, FSC, TSC, Safety Goals.
• Solid understanding of ASPICE lifecycle processes.
• Strong capability in system architectural design using UML and/or SysML.
• Hands-on experience with safety analysis methodologies (FTA, FMEA, DFA, CCA, FFI).

Responsibilities

• Contribute to Item Definition, HARA, Safety Goals, FSC and TSC development.
• Define and derive Functional and Technical Safety Requirements (FSR/TSR).
• Support System, Hardware, and Software teams in safety requirements elicitation and alignment with ISO 26262.
• Perform system-level safety analyses (FTA, FMEA, DFA, CCA, cascading failures, FFI).
• Design and specify safety mechanisms including redundancy, monitoring, diagnostics, plausibility checks, degraded modes, fault reactions, safe states, and communication protection.
• Define safety verification strategies for FSC, TSC, and system architecture work products.
• Provide guidelines and best practices for safety concept and system architectural design per ISO 26262 Parts 3 and 4.
• Conduct formal reviews and inspections of safety concepts and architecture deliverables.
