Job summary

Aubay Portugal is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design and implement data migration strategies from SQL Server to Google Cloud Platform, and to build robust ETL/ELT pipelines on BigQuery.

You will optimize SQL queries, develop Python scripts, and collaborate with business teams to ensure reliable, scalable data platforms and cost-efficient cloud operations in a hybrid Porto/Lisbon setup.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience as a Data Engineer with cloud focus.
• Strong GCP proficiency including BigQuery, performance tuning and cost management.
• Experience with Google Cloud Composer for DAGs and orchestration.

Responsibilities

• Participate in design and execution of data and ETL migration from SQL Server to GCP.
• Develop and optimize scripts and pipelines for transferring data to BigQuery.
• Design, develop, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines on GCP using Cloud Composer.
• Optimize SQL queries for BigQuery and design data schemas.

What will you do?

• Actively participate in the design and execution of data and ETL process migration strategies from SQL Server to Google Cloud Platform;
• Develop and optimize scripts and pipelines for efficiently transferring and transforming data into BigQuery;
• Design, develop, and maintain robust and high-performing ETL/ELT pipelines on GCP, orchestrating them with Google Cloud Composer;
• Optimize complex SQL queries for BigQuery, contributing to the design and implementation of efficient data schemas;
• Utilize Python extensively for automating migration tasks, data transformation, and integration with GCP services;
• Collaborate closely with technical and business teams to understand existing environments, facilitate transitions, and ensure platform reliability.

What are we looking for?

• A minimum of 6 years of professional experience as a Data Engineer, with a strong focus on cloud environments;
• Mastery of Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including BigQuery for schema design, complex queries, performance optimization, and cost management;
• Solid experience with Google Cloud Composer for creating, scheduling, monitoring, and debugging DAGs to orchestrate data flows for migration and integration;
• Excellent proficiency in SQL and Python for developing scripts, data transformation, and interacting with GCP APIs;
• Proven experience or a strong understanding of methodologies for migrating databases from on-premise (SQL Server) to a cloud environment (GCP);
• Fluency in English (B2 level required);
