Emma – The Sleep Company in Lisbon seeks a Senior Backend Engineer to join our ERP team. You will design, develop, and maintain high-performance APIs and distributed services powering our global operations.

You will work with Go and TypeScript, build RESTful interfaces, and apply DevOps practices in a cloud environment using AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes. You’ll collaborate with product, design, and frontend teams in an agile setting, mentoring others and contributing to recruiting efforts.

Qualifications

• Experience designing scalable backend systems in cloud environments.
• Proficient in Go and Typescript.
• Solid knowledge of RESTful APIs, microservices and systems integration.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale backend services in Go and TypeScript to support Emma’s global operations.
• Develop and maintain REST APIs that integrate with internal systems and third-party providers.
• Work with AWS services (SNS,SQS) and event-driven architectures for distributed systems.
• Own backend components end-to-end from development to deployment and monitoring (DevOps).
• Ensure high code quality via automated testing, reviews, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Collaborate in an agile, empowered team and mentor teammates while contributing to process improvements.

We are seeking a talented and passionate Senior Backend Engineer to join our ERP team.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance APIs and distributed systems to support our ERP team. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers, and frontend developers to build reliable and scalable services that power our global operations.

What you'll do:

• You will design, build, and scale backend services in Go and Typescript to support Emma’s global fulfillment and logistics operations, helping us become the world’s leading sleep brand.
• You will develop and maintain robust, secure, and high-performance REST APIs that integrate with various internal systems and third‑party providers.
• You will work with event-driven architectures using AWS services such as SNS, SQS, ensuring smooth communication across distributed systems.
• You will take ownership of backend components end-to-end—from development and testing to deployment and monitoring (full DevOps).
• You will ensure high code quality through automated testing, code reviews, and continuous delivery pipelines.
• You will be part of an agile, empowered team, actively sharing knowledge, mentoring team members, and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
• You will contribute to recruiting efforts to help us grow our high‑performing tech team.

Who we're looking for:

• You have a strong track record of designing and delivering scalable and performant backend systems in a cloud environment, preferably with Go (Golang) & Typescript.
• You are experienced in building event-driven architectures using AWS SNS/SQS, and are familiar with modern cloud infrastructure (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes).
• You have solid understanding of RESTful API design, microservices, and systems integration patterns.
• You bring deep knowledge of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and software design patterns.
• You have several years of proven experience in backend software development, ideally in a fast-paced E‑commerce or logistics-focused environment.
• You are familiar with CI/CD pipelines and take pride in writing clean, maintainable, and well‑documented code.
• You are highly self‑organised, with a strong sense of ownership and proactive problem‑solving mindset.
• You are a team player with strong communication skills, and thrive in a collaborative, feedback‑driven environment.
• Experience working with monitoring tools and implementing observability best practices is a plus.
• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience is required.
