Job summary

Jobgether is seeking a Senior Backend Developer (Go) based in Portugal to architect and build reliable, scalable backend systems for a high‑volume energy trading platform. You will leverage Go expertise to deliver low‑latency services in an AI‑assisted development environment.

You will translate complex requirements into precise technical tasks, review code with both human and AI agents, and promote test‑driven development, security, and performance.

Qualifications

• 10+ years backend development with system architecture responsibility.
• Proficiency in Go; production-grade backend design; Rust is a plus.
• Experience with high-throughput, low-latency systems and bottleneck diagnosis.
• Database schema design and query optimization expertise.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will architect and develop reliable, scalable backend systems for a business-critical energy trading platform.
You will leverage deep Go expertise and strong system design capabilities to build high-throughput, low-latency services.
Working in an AI-assisted development environment, you will use agentic coding tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining exceptional engineering standards.
You will translate complex business requirements into clear technical specifications that both developers and AI agents can execute effectively.
With a strong emphasis on test-driven development, automation, security, and performance optimization, you will help ensure robust and maintainable systems.
Collaborating with product managers, frontend developers, and other stakeholders, you will contribute to critical features and architectural decisions.

Accountabilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services, prioritizing performance, reliability, maintainability, and security.

• Use AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, and Gemini CLI to improve engineering productivity, accelerate implementation, and enhance code quality.

• Translate business requirements into precise technical specifications and actionable tasks that AI coding agents and developers can execute.

• Review and validate pull requests submitted by both human developers and AI agents, ensuring code quality, correctness, and alignment with architectural standards.

• Collaborate with product managers, frontend developers, and other stakeholders to design and deliver business-critical functionality.

• Promote test-driven development (TDD), maintain comprehensive automated test coverage, and integrate testing into continuous integration and delivery workflows.

• Design, develop, and optimize database schemas and data access patterns across relational, key-value, and time-series databases.

• Apply secure coding practices, address vulnerabilities, and ensure systems meet relevant security and compliance requirements.

• Monitor and optimize system latency, throughput, scalability, and resource utilization to support demanding workloads.

• Contribute to distributed system architecture and ensure backend services remain reliable under high data volumes.

• Mentor other developers, share engineering best practices, and support continuous improvement across the development team.

Requirements:

• 10+ years of backend software development experience, including substantial responsibility for system architecture and technical design.

• Strong proficiency in Go, with the ability to design and implement production-grade backend services; experience with Rust is a plus.

• Demonstrated experience optimizing high-throughput, low-latency systems and diagnosing performance bottlenecks.

• Strong knowledge of database schema design, query optimization, and efficient data storage and retrieval.

• Solid understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, scalability, and high-volume data processing.

• Familiarity with AI-assisted software development tools and the ability to incorporate agentic coding workflows into everyday engineering practices.

• Practical experience with test-driven development, automated testing, and continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.

• Knowledge of application security principles, including OWASP guidance, secure coding, vulnerability mitigation, and compliance considerations.

• Hands-on experience with cloud-native infrastructure and deployment technologies, including containers, Kubernetes, and service meshes.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound architectural decisions and translate complex requirements into implementable solutions.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

• Excellent written and spoken English.

• Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical decisions and delivery in a fully remote environment.
