Job summary

Alignerr is seeking Senior Software Engineers to design, build, and scale AI infrastructure from Lisbon and across Portugal. This fully remote, hourly contract role offers 20–40 hours per week with high autonomy and ownership.

You will tackle architecture challenges, write scalable code, and collaborate with leading researchers and engineers to power AI products used by millions worldwide.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Go, Java, etc.).
• Solid understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and system design principles.
• Experience building and deploying backend services, APIs, or data-intensive applications.
• Comfortable with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerized environments.
• Familiar with Git, CI/CD workflows, and modern development tooling.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills; ability to navigate ambiguity.
• Excellent written communication and async collaboration.
• Self-directed and reliable with autonomous time management.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain production-grade software systems for AI training, evaluation, and deployment.
• Write clean, well-tested, and performant code in Python, TypeScript, or other modern languages.
• Build and optimize APIs, data pipelines, and backend services at scale.
• Architect solutions balancing delivery speed with long-term maintainability.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across distributed systems and cloud infrastructure.
• Collaborate asynchronously with ML engineers, researchers, and product managers.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.
• Work independently on well-scoped projects with ownership and autonomy.
