Job summary

Hitachi, Ltd. invites engineers to join our Substation Automation hub in Porto to design, implement, and maintain SCADA-based control systems for critical infrastructure. You will work on HMI/SCADA software, PLCs, RTUs, and secure communications across diverse projects.

The role calls for hands-on SCADA project execution, collaboration with managers and engineers, and ongoing documentation. You’ll contribute to reliable, secure grid modernization and can travel to project sites as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field.
2+ years of experience in SCADA system design, implementation, and maintenance.
Proven expertise with major SCADA platforms (e.g., MicroSCADA).
Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, IEC60870-104, IEC61850).
Experience with PLC programming (e.g. RTUtil RTU500).
Knowledge of cybersecurity principles applied to industrial control systems.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, configure, and commission SCADA systems, including HMI/SCADA software, PLCs, RTUs, and communication networks.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to define system requirements and specifications.
Develop and execute test plans for SCADA systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex SCADA system issues, including hardware, software, and network problems.
Perform system upgrades, migrations, and performance optimizations.
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for SCADA systems, including design specifications, user manuals, and operational procedures.
Provide technical support and training to operations and maintenance personnel.
Stay current with emerging SCADA technologies, industry best practices, and cybersecurity threats.
Participate in on-call rotations for critical system support as required.
