LIP opens a call for selection of fellows forONEResearchStudent Fellowship for Bachelor (BIL) for participation in the projectCENTRO2030-FEDER-02361800 (Tomografia Muonica Aplicada com Câmaras de Planos Resistivos) funded by FEDER-Programa Regional do Centro 2021-2027(Centro 2030)
Work plan:
The candidates will perform the following plan:
The successful candidate will join the TOMAR project, whose objective is the development of a muon tomography telescope based on Resistive Plate Chambers (RPCs) incorporating an innovative readout architecture with a reduced number of electronic channels. The project aims to demonstrate the feasibility of a high-performance, cost-effective muon imaging instrument capable of operating in real-world environments, with potential applications in both scientific and industrial contexts.
The activities to be carried out will focus primarily on supporting the assembly, integration, characterization, and validation of the muon tomography telescope being developed within the TOMAR project. The successful candidate will participate in the operation of the detection system, the execution of experimental data‑taking campaigns, the development of data analysis and tomographic reconstruction tools, and the evaluation of system performance through the characterization of relevant parameters and the analysis of the collected data. The activities will also include the validation of the prototype under realistic operating conditions and support for the optimization of its performance for future scientific and industrial applications.
The fellowship has a duration of6 months, eventually renewable until the end of the project, with a foreseen starting date on January 1st, 2027.The fellowship may eventually be renewed, until the maximum foreseen in the project and according to the terms of the LIP regulations.
