We are looking for a Protection Engineer to support the design, implementation and commissioning of protection systems for electrical substations, transmission and distribution networks, renewable energy plants and industrial facilities. The role covers the full project lifecycle, from engineering design and studies through testing, commissioning and operational support.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze technical specifications, tender documentation and project requirements.
- Develop basic and detailed engineering for protection systems in HV, MV and LV substations.
- Perform protection coordination, selectivity and short-circuit studies.
- Configure, parameterize and validate protection relays from manufacturers such as Siemens, ABB, Schneider, GE Multilin and SEL.
- Develop protection schemes, logic diagrams and associated technical documentation.
- Review single-line diagrams, protection philosophies and communication architectures.
- Prepare technical specifications and datasheets for protection and automation equipment.
- Participate in FAT, SAT, commissioning and functional testing activities.
- Troubleshoot protection maloperations, relay settings and network operating issues.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients and suppliers.
- Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE and utility standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Protection Engineering within substations, transmission & distribution, renewable energy or industrial projects.
- Proven experience in protection coordination, selectivity and fault analysis studies.
- Strong knowledge of line, transformer, busbar, generator, motor and feeder protection schemes.
- Experience with protection relays such as:
- Siemens SIPROTEC
- ABB Relion
- Schneider Easergy
- GE Multilin
- SEL
- Knowledge of communication protocols including:
- IEC 61850
- IEC 60870-5-104
- Modbus
- DNP3
- Experience with power system software such as ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory or CYME.
- Fluent English; Portuguese is considered an advantage.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in industrial projects.
- Previous involvement in commissioning and energization activities.
- Knowledge of digital substations and IEC 61850-based architectures.
