MerkleTech, Unipessoal Lda is seeking a skilled PHP Developer in Lisbon for a full-time, permanent position. You will participate in all stages of the software development cycle, mentor new engineers, and ensure high-quality delivery of application features while adhering to company processes.

The ideal candidate has over 6 years of PHP experience, proficiency in English, and familiarity with various project tools. The role offers a hybrid work model with flexible hours and access to innovative projects.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the entire software development cycle, including requirements analysis, design, development, unit testing, and documentation.
• Ensure long‑term code reusability and stability.
• Proactively identify security, usability, and other technical issues and devise strategies to resolve them.
• Work independently and maintain a broad overview of the project.
• Take ownership of the delivery of complex application features and resolve key technical issues related to the assigned project.
• Comply with the estimation process and provide accurate personal estimates.
• Develop required software features, achieving timely and high‑quality delivery.
• Deliver trainings and participate in knowledge sharing.
• Mentor new software engineers within the team.
• Integrate new technologies and frameworks as needed.
• Understand and follow the company’s release processes.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience with PHP.
• Academic background in IT or equivalent.
• Strong working knowledge of PHP versions 7.3 to 8.1.
• Clear understanding of OOP, design patterns, anti‑patterns, and SOLID principles.
• Experience with relational database management systems.
• Proficiency with project tools such as Atlassian, Git, or SVN.
• Experience with unit, integration, and functional testing layers.
• Knowledge of algorithms and distributed systems.
• Proficiency in English.

Nice to Have

• Experience with e‑commerce solutions such as Magento, PrestaShop, CS‑Cart, xCart, or PHP CMSs (WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, etc.).
• Knowledge of JavaScript (ES6).
• Experience with services or microservices‑oriented architecture, ideally in e‑commerce.
• Familiarity with Scrum methodology.
