AdvanceWorks in Lisbon is seeking a Mid/Senior Java Backend Developer to join an international banking project. You will design, develop, and maintain backend services in Java, using Spring / Spring Boot within a microservices architecture, delivering robust RESTful APIs and scalable data models.

You will own services from development to production, write tests, contribute to CI/CD, monitor performance, and collaborate with Frontend, Core Banking, and Analysis teams.

Qualificações

• At least 3 years of professional software development experience.
• Strong Java 8+ proficiency and Spring Boot expertise.

Responsabilidades

About the project

You’ll join a software development team, working in an international banking environment with the agility and proximity of a growing team.

The project focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining scalable and robust backend services in Java, following a microservices architecture and integrating with internal and external systems.

You’ll work on business-critical applications, contributing to their quality, security, performance, and long-term maintainability, while collaborating closely with Frontend, Core Banking, and Functional Analysis teams.

What will be your role

We are looking for a Mid/Senior Java Backend Developer with strong experience in Java and Spring / Spring Boot, and a solid understanding of microservices architectures.

You’ll be responsible for designing and implementing backend services, developing RESTful APIs, working with relational and non-relational databases, and contributing to the full software development lifecycle, from development and testing to deployment, monitoring, and production support.

This is a role for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, taking ownership of the services they develop, and contributing to continuous improvement in code quality, architecture, performance, and development practices.

Your responsibilities will include

• Designing and implementing backend services in Java using Spring / Spring Boot within a microservices architecture.
• Developing and maintaining RESTful APIs for integration between internal services and external systems.
• Designing, implementing, and optimizing relational and non-relational data models using PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and SQL Server.
• Developing complex queries, creating indexes, and performing basic database tuning and optimization.
• Creating and maintaining Dockerfiles and containerization configurations for backend services.
• Following software versioning best practices using Git and contributing to existing CI/CD pipelines.
• Implementing unit and integration tests throughout the software lifecycle, including SIT, UAT, and production environments.
• Monitoring services, analysing production issues, and troubleshooting incidents to ensure service stability and reliability.
• Contributing to application observability, logging, and continuous improvement of production services.
• Collaborating with Frontend, Core Banking, and Functional Analysis teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Participating in code reviews and contributing to the improvement of the codebase, architecture, and technical guidelines.
• Documenting services, APIs, data flows, and architectural decisions using Jira and Confluence.
• Contributing to technical decisions and the continuous improvement of development practices and solutions.

What should you bring to the team?

• +3 years of professional experience in software development or a relevant technical role.
• Strong professional experience with Java 8+.
• Solid experience with Spring / Spring Boot and backend development.
• Proven experience working with microservices architectures.
• Good experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs, including API versioning and documentation.
• Hands‑on experience with relational and/or non-relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and/or SQL Server.
• Experience with Docker and containerized applications.
• Good understanding of Git, CI/CD practices, and software deployment processes.
• Experience implementing unit and integration tests.
• Ability to analyse and troubleshoot technical issues, including incidents in production environments.
• Strong focus on code quality, performance, maintainability, and clean and testable code.
• Ability to take ownership of the services and solutions you develop.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with both technical and functional profiles.
• Proactive mindset and openness to continuous improvement and participation in technical decisions.
• Good knowledge of Agile methodologies.
• Availability to work in a hybrid model, with 3 days per week at the Lisbon office.
• Availability to work on-site during the first month of the project.

Nice to have

• Experience with messaging and event‑driven architectures, particularly Kafka, NATS, or ActiveMQ.
• Experience with centralized monitoring and logging solutions.
• Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms.
• Knowledge of backend application security, including authentication, authorization, and handling of sensitive data.
• Experience in banking, financial services, or other business‑critical environments.
• Interest in AI applied to software development, including prompt engineering.
