Discord is opening an engineering hub in Lisbon and is seeking an Engineering Director & Site Lead to build it from the ground up. As employee #1 on the ground, you will shape the site's technical direction, hire the founding team, and integrate Lisbon as a full extension of Discord's engineering org.

This is a high-autonomy leadership role with hands-on review of designs and collaboration with US leaders to set charters and ensure delivery.

Qualificações

• 5+ years backend and distributed systems experience.
• 5+ years in management; track record of leading teams.
• Experience building or scaling an engineering site from zero.

Responsabilidades

• Own the Lisbon site end-to-end including hiring plans and operations.
• Build and own the local hiring plan in partnership with central Recruiting.
• Set architecture and technical direction for Lisbon workstreams in Rust, Python, React.
• Review design docs and unblock architecture decisions; hands-on technical leadership.
• Be the on-the-ground people leader for Lisbon covering culture and HR escalations.
• Partner with US engineering leadership to define team charters.
• Represent Discord in Lisbon's tech ecosystem to build employer brand and pipeline.
• Identify structural risks early with Legal and report site health and risks to leadership.
