Emergn is seeking a Lead Java Full Stack Developer based in Portugal to design, build, and maintain scalable Java applications while providing technical leadership and setting best practices. You will work with cross-functional teams to align architecture with business goals and deliver high-quality software.

• 8+ years of experience in Java development with high-performance apps.
• Experience with RESTful APIs and front-end tech (Angular, React).
• Cloud and container knowledge: AWS/Azure, Docker, Kubernetes.
• Observability know-how with New Relic foundations and practices.
• Git and CI/CD pipelines proficiency.
• Strong technical leadership, PM skills, and agile methods.
• Claude Code experience and an agentic mindset.

As a Lead Java Full Stack Developer at Emergn you will build scalable, high-performance Java applications. You design, develop and maintain complex, scalable, high-performance Java applications. You will provide technical leadership and make sure deliverables align with best practices and business requirements.

We want you to:

• Provide technical leadership in designing, coding, testing and deploying Java-based applications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project scope, architecture and delivery timelines.
• Conduct code reviews and promote coding standards and best practices.
• Troubleshoot, debug and optimize applications for performance and scalability.
• Mentor other developers and facilitate knowledge sharing.

This job might be for you if you have:

• 8+ years of experience in Java development focused on high-performance applications, with strong expertise in Spring, Spring Boot and Hibernate.
• Experience with RESTful API development and front-end technologies such as Angular and React, with solid Angular experience.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), including AWS Cloud Practitioner Essentials, AWS Technical Essentials and AWS Solutions Architect Essentials.
• Knowledge of observability and New Relic, including New Relic Observability Foundations and Observability Practitioner.
• Proficiency in version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Proven experience in technical leadership, project management and agile methodologies, with clear communication of technical solutions.
• Claude Code experience and an agentic mindset.

You might also have:

• Experience in microservices architecture.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices.
• Advanced knowledge of database management (SQL, NoSQL).
