Job summary

Emergn is seeking a Senior Python Developer to own a business-critical Python platform from Portugal. You will develop backend services and APIs with Python/Flask, design async processing with Celery and RabbitMQ, and work with MongoDB.

You will debug issues, improve tests, and contribute to CI/CD and documentation in a collaborative, international team. You have 4+ years of Python experience, Flask REST APIs, MongoDB, and strong English skills, plus familiarity with Git, AWS, and modern

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional software development with Python as main language.
• Solid knowledge of Python fundamentals and advanced concepts.
• Hands-on experience building REST APIs with Flask.
• Experience with background jobs and asynchronous processing (Celery, RabbitMQ).
• Hands-on MongoDB experience, ideally via PyMongo.
• Experience writing automated tests and safe changes in large codebases.
• Proficient with Git, GitHub, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience in Agile/Scrum teams and professional English.

Responsibilities

We want you to:

• Develop and maintain backend services and APIs using Python and Flask.
• Understand the behaviour of an existing, complex application and build new features without impacting what already works.
• Design and implement asynchronous processing and background job. workflows using Celery and RabbitMQ
• Work with MongoDB and process data using Pandas and NumPy.
• Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve application issues.
• Keep code quality high through automated tests, pull requests, and code reviews.
• Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions.
• Collaborate with product, frontend, and DevOps teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Use GitHub Copilot and other AI tools to work more effectively.
• Fill documentation gaps and contribute to technical best practices.

This job might be for you if you have:

• 4+ years of professional software development experience, with Python as your main language.
• Solid knowledge of Python, from the fundamentals to more advanced concepts.
• Hands-on experience building REST APIs with Flask.
• Experience with background jobs and asynchronous processing using Celery and a message broker such as RabbitMQ.
• Hands-on experience with MongoDB, ideally through PyMongo.
• Experience writing automated tests and making safe changes in large, existing codebases.
• Comfort working with Git and GitHub, pull requests, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams.
• Professional working proficiency in English.

You might also have:

• Experience with Pandas and NumPy for data processing.
• Experience with GitHub Actions.
• Experience with AWS services.
• Knowledge of Node.js or Vue.js.
• Experience in financial services projects, such as pensions or insurance.
