Zego in Portugal is hiring a senior backend engineer to lead engineers, design and own Python microservices powering our insurance platform, and drive scalable backend systems.

You will build cloud-native services, improve CI/CD, mentor teammates, and work AI-first. This role offers a remote-first arrangement with quarterly visits to our London office and a compensation package including base salary, bonus, and share options.

Qualificações

• Hands-on experience building cloud-native microservices; Python preferred, but strong experience in another language is fine.
• Experience building distributed architectures with performance tuning and observability.
• Ability to design simple, maintainable systems and weigh trade-offs.
• Mentor teammates with clear communication and collaboration.
• Proactive in engaging non-engineering stakeholders and explaining technical decisions.
• You work AI-first, using AI daily and taking ownership to move fast.

Responsabilidades

• Lead several engineers within a team or workstream.
• Design, build and own the Python microservices powering our platform.
• Drive architectural discussions across teams and shape backend systems.
• Deliver large, complex initiatives end to end with clear scope and impact.
• Raise the bar on engineering excellence: testing, reliability, scalability, clean code.
• Coach and mentor engineers to level up the team.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines and incident response; diagnose root causes.
