About The Job
We’re looking for a Junior Accountant to join our Finance team. You’ll handle day-to-day accounting across our Portuguese and German entities, from processing invoices to supporting VAT returns and month-end close. It’s a hands‑on role in a small, international team. You’ll own real work in our systems from day one, and we’ll actively welcome your ideas for improving how we do things.
Key Responsibilities
Invoice processing & payables
- Receive, verify and process vendor invoices and employee expense claims accurately and on time
- Match incoming invoices to purchase orders or approvals, and flag discrepancies promptly
- Allocate costs to the correct accounts, cost centres and VAT categories in line with company policy
- Coordinate payment runs and keep an organised, audit‑ready filing system
Accounts receivable & revenue recording
- Support the issuing of client invoices by checking amounts, VAT treatment and payment terms
- Monitor receivables and help follow up on outstanding balances, keeping communication courteous and professional
General ledger & compliance
- Post journal entries and help with monthly and quarterly closing
- Support VAT returns in Portugal (IVA / OSS) and/or Germany (Umsatzsteuervoranmeldung / OSS), depending on your base location
- Help prepare statutory reporting and audit documentation, making sure records are complete and accurate
- Spot allocation errors or process gaps and propose corrective actions
Continuous improvement & learning
- Suggest improvements to processes, templates and workflows that make the work more accurate and efficient
- Keep up to date with relevant accounting standards (SNC/PGAAP and HGB basics) and the local tax rules that apply to your work
About You
- A degree in Accounting or Management (Contabilidade / Gestão), completed or nearly completed, with a solid grounding in Portuguese GAAP
- Solid knowledge of Portuguese IVA and OSS, since Portugal is the main workload
- Hands‑on experience with DATEV, or at least with a similar German‑style ERP built on chart‑of‑accounts logic. You’ll post and reconcile entries yourself, not just read reports.
- Fluent Portuguese and English for day‑to‑day work with the team
- Organised and detail‑oriented, comfortable asking questions and flagging issues early
Nice to have: German, especially enough to read invoices, vendor emails and basic accounting terms
