Siemens Portugal Tech Hub is seeking a highly skilled Windows Server, Azure Administrator, and SQL Server DBA to join our IT Operations team. You will manage Windows Server infrastructure, Azure cloud resources, and SQL Server platforms, ensuring availability, performance, security, and reliability across hybrid environments.

You will automate routine tasks with PowerShell, optimize databases, and collaborate with engineering teams to keep critical applications running smoothly in a hybrid setup.

Qualificações

• Strong experience in Windows Server administration.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure (IaaS) and Azure Virtual Desktop.
• Proven experience administering Microsoft SQL Server in production environments.
• Experience supporting business-critical SQL databases for enterprise apps.
• Excellent PowerShell scripting skills.
• Experience with monitoring solutions (Zabbix).
• Familiarity with ITIL processes and controlled production environments.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken).

Your mission will be…

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Windows Server, Azure Administrator, and SQL Server DBA to join our IT Operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and optimization of our Windows Server infrastructure, Microsoft Azure environment, and SQL Server platforms mostly on Azure cloud-hosted systems.

You will play a key role in ensuring the availability, performance, security, and integrity of Database servers and terminal servers (AVDs), while also managing Azure resources, automating routine tasks, and supporting business critical engineering applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Windows Server Administration
• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows Server operating systems (e.g. Windows Server 2019/2022).
• Manage Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and core Windows Server roles and features.
• Perform routine system health checks, patching, and security updates.
• Ensure high availability and disaster recovery for critical on‑premises server systems.
• Manage server hardening, permissions, and service accounts used by application and database services.
• Azure Cloud Administration
• Administer and manage Microsoft Azure resources, including:
• Virtual Machines (Windows)
• Virtual Networks (VNets), NSGs, Load Balancers
• Storage Accounts
• Azure Active Directory / Entra ID
• Manage and optimize Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments, including host pools, application groups, and user profile solutions.
• Implement and maintain Azure security best practices, including IAM, RBAC, and network security.
• Monitor Azure consumption and recommend cost optimization measures.
• Support hybrid scenarios integrating on-premises SQL Server and Azure hosted workloads.
• SQL Server Administration
• Administer Microsoft SQL Server instances hosting Eplan Master Data
• Install, configure, upgrade, and patch SQL Server (2019/2022) in accordance with vendor and internal standards.
• Manage Eplan database lifecycle tasks, including:
• Database creation and configuration
• Environment refreshes (DEV/TEST/PROD)
• Version upgrades aligned with Eplan application releases
• Monitor and tune SQL Server performance:
• Analyze wait statistics, execution plans, and index usage
• Optimize queries and maintenance plans for Eplan workloads
• Configure memory, MAXDOP, TempDB, and I/O settings appropriate for Eplan usage
• Design and maintain backup and recovery strategies:
• Full, differential, and transaction log backups
• Regular restore testing and disaster recovery validation
• Implement and maintain High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) solutions where required:
• Failover Cluster Instances (FCI)
• Always On Availability Groups (as applicable)
• Manage SQL Server security:
• Logins, users, roles, and permissions according to least privilege principles
• Service accounts and credential management
• Auditing and compliance controls
• Coordinate with application and vendor support teams (AUCOTEC) on:
• Engineering Base performance issues
• Database-related incidents
• Compatibility and upgrade planning
• Automation & Scripting
• Develop, implement, and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate administrative tasks across:
• Windows Server
• Azure resources
• SQL Server administration and health checks
• Utilize Azure Automation, runbooks, and Desired State Configuration (DSC) where applicable.
• Automate routine SQL Server validation tasks (disk space, job status, backup verification).
• Monitoring & Alerting
• Configure, maintain, and respond to alerts from enterprise monitoring systems, with a focus on Zabbix.
• Monitor:
• Server health (CPU, memory, disk, services)
• SQL Server availability, performance, and job execution
• Create and maintain dashboards and reports providing insights into infrastructure and database health.
• Proactively identify and remediate potential issues before they impact Engineering Base availability.
• Troubleshooting & Support
• Act as an escalation point for complex infrastructure and database incidents.
• Troubleshoot:
• SQL Server performance degradation
• Engineering Base connectivity and database errors
• Storage latency and resource contention
• Support planned maintenance, upgrades, and incident resolution with minimal service disruption.
• Documentation & Best Practices
• Maintain clear and UpToDate documentation for:
• Server builds and configurations
• SQL Server standards and procedures
• Engineering Base database architecture and recovery processes
• Ensure adherence to IT standards, security policies, and compliance requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of operational processes.

We are looking for someone with…

• Core Experience
• Strong experience in Windows Server administration.
• Hands on experience with Microsoft Azure, including IaaS and Azure Virtual Desktop.
• Proven experience administering Microsoft SQL Server in production environments.
• Practical experience supporting business critical SQL databases for enterprise applications (Engineering/ERP/PLM systems is a plus).
• Technical Skills
• Deep understanding of Windows Server OS, roles, and services.
• Strong knowledge of SQL Server architecture, performance tuning, and backup/recovery.
• Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls).
• Advanced PowerShell scripting skills.
• Experience with monitoring solutions (Zabbix, or similar).
• Familiarity with ITIL processes and controlled production environments.
• Analytical & Soft Skills
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in performance sensitive environments.
• Clear communication skills for collaboration with infrastructure, application, and vendor teams.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of critical systems.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken).
