The University of Algarve is launching a research grant for a Master’s level candidate under the MAGIA project. The successful applicant will join the Centre for Marine and Environmental Science (CIMA) to advance environmental monitoring of the Guadiana Estuary and develop hydrodynamic and eco-hydrodynamic models.

The role demands a Master’s degree in Marine Sciences or related fields, plus fieldwork and data analysis skills.

Qualifications

• Master degree in Marine Sciences or Physical Oceanography
• Knowledge of hydrodynamic processes in surface waters
• Experience in CTD data collection and processing
• Knowledge of MATLAB or Python
• Fluency in English

Responsabilités

• Deploy CTD stations along the estuary for one year and ensure data quality
• Participate in field surveys of CTD measurements twice a month
• Process and analyze salinity data from fieldwork and monitoring stations
• Calibrate and validate analytical and numerical hydrodynamic models
• Characterize upstream salt transport and total fluxes
• Develop an eco-hydrodynamic model using Delft3D with a coupled ecological module
• Select appropriate numerical tools for predicting salt intrusion and water quality evolution
• Contribute to project dissemination, including updating the project website and publications
