Job summary

Instituto de Engenharia Mecânica in Portugal is inviting applications for a Research Studentship for a PhD student within Project 1803P. The grant is financed by IDMEC and will support enrollment until the PhD contract is completed.

The fellowship will last 3 months with possible renewal for up to 12 months, starting in November 2026. The monthly maintenance allowance is €1,359.64, paid by wire transfer. Selection uses curriculum evaluation (70%) and an interview (30%).

Qualifications

• Be enrolled at a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and commit to enrollment during the grant period.
• Experience in multimodal machine learning and using external data to quantify data leakage and biases.
• Programming experience in Python, including PyTorch, OpenCV, Scikit-learn, Pandas, Numpy, Matplotlib, HuggingFace and MLflow.

Responsibilities

• Work on current, wave and offshore wind energy applications.
• Develop ML methods to speed up CFD and improve scalability of SIMPLE algorithm.
• Generate high-quality training data and document all developed work.
• Publish research results in conferences and journals.
