Job summary

BYD Europe is seeking a Field Service Engineer to maintain and commission energy storage systems at customer sites across Portugal. You will perform annual checks, start-up and troubleshooting, and provide remote diagnostics as needed.

• Associate degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or related fields.
• Hands-on experience with installation, commissioning and maintenance of energy storage systems.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems and energy storage principles.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills; able to work under pressure.
• Fluent in Portuguese or Spanish; working proficiency in English.
• Travel to site up to 70%.

Responsibilities

• Maintain energy storage systems to a high standard, including annual PPM checks, capacity tests and reactive works.
• Provide phone support and remote diagnostics to customers.
• Document timesheets, daily vehicle checks and logs; describe issues and actions taken during service trips.
• Troubleshoot equipment at customer sites and perform start-up/commissioning (SAT).
• Assist in-house system engineering and propose improvements based on field experience.
• Deliver customer training at BYD and at customer facilities if required.

What You'll Be Doing

• Maintain BYD Energy Storage Systems to a high standard by carrying out annual PPM checks, annual capacity tests and reactive works.
• Responsible for working in a safe manner at all times.
• Provide phone support and remote diagnostics to customers.
• Keep up to date with any administrative duties such as timesheets, daily vehicle checks and providing daily job logs. describing issues and actions taken during service trips
• Troubleshoot equipment located at customer sites.
• Perform start-up and commissioning services at customer locations (SAT)
• Assist the in-house system engineering group in product development and/or project work.
• Provide suggestions based on field experience, to improve the products.
• Prepare and perform customer training at BYD as well as at customer facilities (if required)

What You Bring

• At least 3 years of experience in the power industry or with high/low voltage systems, with preference for those with energy storage experience.
• Associate degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or related fields.
• Hands‑on experience with equipment installation, commissioning, and maintenance, preferably familiar with energy storage systems.
• Solid understanding of electrical systems, particularly energy storage systems and their principles.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills, capable of working in high/low voltage environments.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills, able to work efficiently under pressure.
• Fluent in Spanish or Portuguese, with working proficiency in english.
• Travelling to site request up to 70%.
