Adecco Permanent Recruitment is recruiting for an experienced data/platform engineer in Lisbon. You will design, build, and evolve large-scale data platforms that ingest, process, and manage vast data volumes across distributed environments.

You will work with Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, Flink, Spark, and cloud-native tech to deliver reliable, observable systems. The role is hybrid (1–2 days on-site) in Lisbon, with a full-time direct contract with the client.

Qualificações

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 5 years of professional software engineering or data platform engineering experience in production environments.
• Proficient with Kafka or comparable event streaming technologies.
• Hands-on Docker and Kubernetes in production.
• Experience with Apache Flink and/or Apache Spark for large-scale processing.
• Experience designing and operating data-intensive distributed systems.
• Experience building cloud-native platforms in AWS/Azure/GCP.
• Proficient with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience across full SDLC and MTTD/observability practices.
• Professional English proficiency (minimum B2).
• Based in Portugal.

In this role, you will help design, build, and evolve large-scale data platforms responsible for ingesting, processing, and managing significant volumes of data across complex distributed environments. Working alongside engineers, architects, and product stakeholders, you will play a key role in delivering cloud-native data solutions that support cutting-edge technologies at the intersection of IoT, telecommunications, and software platforms.

Location: Lisbon (Hybrid - 1 to 2 days per week on-site)

Contract: Full-time, direct contract with the client

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and enhance data platforms supporting large-scale, data-intensive workloads.
• Build and maintain data ingestion, transformation, and processing pipelines operating at scale.
• Design technical solutions that meet demanding requirements around scalability, availability, security, performance, and resilience.
• Participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle, from solution design and technical analysis through implementation, testing, deployment, and operational support.
• Develop and maintain distributed systems, cloud-native applications, and event-driven architectures.
• Work with streaming technologies to process and distribute high volumes of data efficiently.
• Contribute to the evolution of modern data architectures, ensuring reliability, observability, and operational excellence.
• Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and architecture teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Drive software quality through Test-Driven Development (TDD) and engineering best practices.
• Contribute to CI/CD processes and continuous delivery initiatives.
• Monitor and maintain production environments, ensuring platform stability and performance.
• Provide technical input into architecture, design decisions, and platform evolution.

Required Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional software engineering or data platform engineering experience within production environments.
• Strong experience with Kafka or comparable event streaming and messaging technologies.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.
• Experience working with Apache Flink and/or Apache Spark for large-scale data processing.
• Experience designing and operating data-intensive systems and distributed architectures.
• Proven experience building and supporting cloud-native platforms in AWS, Azure, and/or GCP environments.
• Experience working with both relational and NoSQL databases.
• Strong understanding of designing and delivering complex, large-scale data platforms.
• Experience working across the full software development lifecycle.
• Solid knowledge of Test-Driven Development (TDD) methodologies.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Self-motivated mindset with strong learning capabilities and interpersonal skills.
• Experience using agentic development tools and workflows.
• Professional English proficiency (minimum B2 level).
• Based in Portugal.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Apache Iceberg or similar open table formats.
• Experience with Lakehouse, Data Lake, or modern analytical platform architectures.
• Previous exposure to IoT, telecommunications, or semiconductor-related environments.
• Experience working with multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
• Knowledge of multi-cloud architectures and deployment strategies.
