We're hiring a Data Steward to help operate and scale our enterprise data governance framework. You'll make sure critical data assets are clearly defined, properly owned, catalogued, classified and monitored for quality — partnering with data owners, business stakeholders, architects, engineers and analytics teams to build trust in data across the organisation.
What you'll do
- Define, document and maintain data ownership, stewardship responsibilities, business terms and usage rules across your assigned domains
- Maintain and enrich the enterprise data catalog and business glossary — keeping metadata, classifications, data lineage and ownership accurate
- Work with data owners, analysts and engineers to set data quality expectations, business rules and validation criteria
- Monitor data quality issues, coordinate root-cause analysis, track remediation and escalte recurring or high-impact issues through governance forums
- Review new and changed data assets against governance standards — naming conventions, definitions, sensitivity classification, access rules, lifecycle
- Facilitate workshops with business and technical stakeholders to align on definitions, ownership and quality thresholds
- Build the guidance, templates and training that drive stewardship adoption across domain teams
- Partner with the Data Governance & Business Analyst Manager and Data Architect to embed stewardship into strategic data initiatives
What you'll bring
- 3+ years in data stewardship, data governance, data management, data quality, business analysis or analytics
- Strong grasp of governance concepts — ownership, metadata management, data lineage, data classification, business glossary management
- A track record of documenting business terms, data definitions, data flows and governance procedures in a structured, reusable way
- Hands-on with a data cataloging or governance platform — Unity Catalog (preferred) or Microsoft Purview
- Working ability in SQL, Power BI, Excel and Microsoft 365 to inspect data and validate definitions
- Excellent communication and facilitation in English, with technical and non-technical audiences alike
- Ownership, autonomy and comfort managing multiple stewardship activities across a distributed, global team
- Nice to have: Experience on an enterprise-wide data governance implementation or inside a formal stewardship mode
