Job summary

SIXT's Lisbon team seeks a Data Engineer to advance the Data Shop by implementing AWS and big data technologies, collaborating with data professionals to deliver dashboards, data products, and ML endpoints.

You will shape the Data Platform roadmap and uphold strict data protection standards across global datasets. Hybrid work setup and a vibrant, intercultural environment await.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field with at least 3 years of experience as a Data Engineer.
• Proven ability to design scalable data models (dimensional, star/snowflake) and implement end-to-end ELT automation.
• Hands-on with Amazon Redshift, dbt, and orchestrating workflows with Apache Airflow.
• Experience with AWS data stack (S3, Glue, Lambda, IAM) for ingestion, storage and transformation.

Responsibilities

• Drive innovation by exploring and implementing latest AWS and big data technologies for the SIXT Data Shop.
• Collaborate with Data Engineers, BI Analysts and Data Scientists to architect dashboards, analytics, data products, and ML endpoints.
• Contribute to shaping the Data Platform vision and roadmap with strong analytical insight.
• Uphold data integrity and protection with high ethical standards when handling customer data.

SIXT's central Business Intelligence team builds and maintains the SIXT Data Platform and its Data Catalogue, serving thousands of users globally. Our flagship product, the SIXT Data Shop, ingests tens of millions of events daily, processes them to meet diverse consumer needs, and delivers insights through a comprehensive toolbox — from self-service batch processes to real-time ML model endpoints. As part of a hands-on team of 30+ Data and BI Engineers, you will drive operational automation, expand self-service capabilities, and enable innovative use cases for our customers worldwide. YOUR ROLE AT SIXT

• You drive innovation by exploring and implementing the latest AWS and big data technologies to uncover hidden opportunities, enable new capabilities, and build integrations for the SIXT Data Shop
• You collaborate cross-functionally with Data Engineers, BI Analysts, and Data Scientists to architect optimal solutions for diverse analytical use cases, including dashboarding, ad hoc analytics, data-as-a-product, and machine learning
• You shape the Data Platform vision and roadmap by contributing your expertise, innovative ideas, and intellectual curiosity
• You ensure data integrity by applying exceptional work ethics when handling sensitive customer data, maintaining the highest standards of data protection

YOUR SKILLS MATTER

• Education & ExperienceYou hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field and bring at least 3 years of professional experience as a Data Engineer with a strong focus on data modelling
• Data ModellingYou have proven experience designing scalable data models (dimensional modelling, star/snowflake schemas, Kimball-style methodologies) and building end-to-end automation from source systems to analytical dashboards using ELT methodologies
• Cloud Data WarehousingYou bring hands-on expertise with Amazon Redshift, data transformation using dbt (models, tests, macros, documentation), and orchestrating interdependent workflows with Apache Airflow
• AWS Data StackYou have solid experience with the broader AWS data ecosystem (e.g., S3, Glue, Lambda, IAM) supporting ingestion, storage, and transformation pipelines feeding into Redshift
• AI ProficiencyYou have hands-on experience with AI coding assistants and agentic workflow automation, and ideally a solid understanding of RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems and how to leverage LLMs with contextual data
• Engineering ExcellenceYou apply strong engineering best practices across the full development lifecycle — including agile methodologies, code reviews, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins), and testing — with advanced proficiency in Python and SQL and a deep understanding of distributed systems and data storage/compute principles
