55 Tech is building a data infrastructure for the sports and esports industries, focusing on fast and reliable backend services. We are seeking a highly motivated Backend Engineer to join our growing team and work on a Risk Management Platform with real-time data pipelines.

In this role, you will design, implement, and maintain backend services and APIs, optimize performance, and contribute to architecture discussions. 3+ years of backend experience and strong TS skills are preferred.

About the Role

We are seeking for a highly motivated Backend Engineer to join our growing team.

In this role, you will work on our Risk Management Platform. You will be responsible for :

• Designing, building and maintaining scalable, reliable backend services and REST/WS APIs
• Working on data pipelines that ingest, process, and serve data efficiently.
• Improving performance, observability, and resilience across the system.
• Taking part in architecture decisions and technical design reviews.
• Writing clean, easy to understand code and review code from teammates

Preferred Background

• 3+ years of experience in backend development
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript
• Experience designing and building APIs (REST, WS)
• Solid understanding of relational databases - You will be working mainly with PostgreSQL, Clickhouse
• Ability to analyse complex technical challenges and propose effective solutions
• Comfortable working independently and taking ownership in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to Haves

• Past experience with high-frequency ingestion pipelines where optimization and efficiency is crucial
• Familiar with data compression algorithms (zstd), binary serialization formats (MessagePack) and in-memory database stores (Redis/Valkey)
• Interest in sports betting or sports in general
• Sensible and sustainable approach to using AI tools (no AI slop here, but feel free to use it as a tool!)
• Willing to dip their fingers into front-end development on occasion (in React)
